For me... it has to be Foster the People - Torches.

It's one of the few albums where I like every track on the album. Very MGMT'ish but better. Great songs :>

Deconstruction - The Devin Townsend Project.

Directions In Groove (DIG) - Clearlight
Gotye - Making Mirrors
Guy J - 1000 Words

I can't say there has been a single record of the year for me..
A few I liked;

Tim Hecker - Ravedeath, 1972
Heavy noise but in the best possible way, really like Tim Hecker's stuff.

Perc - Wicker and Steel
My favourite techno album this year, lots of harsh crunching techno sounds.

Planningtorock - W
This one took a little getting into, but the unusual combination of processed and strange vocals, electronics, and violin really stuck with me.

Kuedo - Severant
Great combinations of melody, footwork influenced percussion and dubstep power (although this doesn't sound like trad dubstep, Jamie Kuedo used to be in vex'd and brings some of that heaviness to this project).

Shlohmo - Bad Vibes
Been enjoying lots of Shlohmo's stuff and his album doesn't disappoint - kind of has the west coast brainfeeder hiphop influence, but also a more muted, hazy shoegazy atmosphere. Great music for a very low key start of a weekend morning.

Philistine Razz

I'd have to get back to you on this. So many to ch-ch-choose from this year.
[quote]
Haha LeKnight - that video is great! The song itself I don't mind - it's a bit over the top to be something I'd listen to regularly.
Definitely hearing the MGMT poppy aspects in that track resist but again it's not really my sort of thing.

FWIW

Foo Fighters - Wasting Light
Their best album yet. I have listened to it at least 5 times a week since it was released.

New Favourite Foo's song - Walk

[quote]
I'd have to go Zomby - Dedication because it's the album i've listened to the most

Kurt Vile, Wooden Shjips, Moon Duo, Cosmin TRG and Planningtorock all other highlights
[quote]
Underworld - Barking

David Dallas - The Rose Tint Very Happy

#TintSquad! Mr. Green

Ahh I fucking love Dave Grohl. Thats an awesome song and yes an awesome album their best since the colour and the shape. Vote #2!

Has anyone heard the new Justice album yet?

Nicki Minaj...Pink Friday
David Dallas...Rose Tint

Nicki Minaj is one cool chick...Ive ben waiting for another decent chick HipHop album since Missy Elliot...David Dallas is beyond amazing apart from the fact hes a doppleganger for my ex hes just the man.

As far as I'm concerned, this album (El Camino) kicks the ass of all releases this year and while it's doing it, it's making out with your sister with no intention of calling her again. Rock is albums like this.

It's definitely going to be my summer sundown with a beer essential listen, all summer long...
[quote]
HOLY FUCK! That's awesome dalai!
[quote]
the album isn't even out yet ya fucking end of year list rule breaking clowns

therefore your choice is void

great track... but also a song one feels they've heard many times before (not a bad thing)

I feel I can't listen to her music safely because I get photos like this in my head:

Forgot about FINK! The album 'Perfect Darkness' is amazing...here's the title track:

Cheers to Chaos Theory and Samsara for the hook up on the Finky goodness

Uhhhh yeah, sure.

*shrugs*

I deliberately held off posting in this thread because I was waiting for El Camino to come out. I just had a feeling that it would be awesome and boy did it overachieve! It's an incredible rock album. Best I've heard in years!
[quote]
best in years, high praise Smile

I want to listen to it now... damn your eyes, ears and throat

[quote]
Well our tastes are quite different Bob so be prepared to be disappointed as per. But for mine, I fucking love a rock album that isn't pretentious, doesn't try to be high concept, just makes you want to drink and dance and try to get laid. It is what it is, which is simple blues influenced rock at its best.
[quote]
differnet maybe, but you and others who I respect are on the same page... and I like the Black Keys quite a lot

I do hope you're not inferring I like high concept pretensious rock albums, cause I don't. Rock should make you want to turn up the volume and drink too much beer I reckon
[quote]
No, no, no inference there. We do often disagree is all. Yes, that is rock to me too. :>
[quote]
I always enjoy the black keys but just due to the style of music they're doing I'd have a hard time calling it album of the year..

There's a prins thomas mix of em dale/jono if you didn't know and fancy getting some norwegian funk into your next set

[quote]
Every song of theirs reminds me so much of Eastbound and Down which is a good thing - there's just not enough to make this album better or different to Brothers
[quote]
I hear your opinion but i gotta respectfully disagree. Brothers is more sombre and really trails off in the second half. This one is much more uptempo and reflects their live style much more. Every song on it is a killer track. No boring bits at all.

Am def gonna check out that Prins Thomas mix Bn1. I have a few tracks by him and Howlin For You is my fav track off Brothers!

Rock should make you feel like changing the world maaaaaan!!! *said in crazy Jack Black voice*

2562 - "When In Doubt"
- Brilliant "post-dubstep" album… a swingy techno masterpiece crafted entirely from samples from old Disco records.

Marcus Intalex - "21"
- Super d&b full-lengther (you don't ever hear that phrase often, at all. So no surprise it came from one of the true legends of the genre).

More if and when I think of / remember any...
