Your Accent

Do you think it has changed much? I’ve only been here 9 months but according to people I talk to back at home I’ve got a very mixed accent. I find that in London, Kiwis/Aussies/Saffa’s are all starting to sound the same. We seem to get a universal accent. I can hardly tell the difference between us!!

Kiwi accents actually sound really funny now. Anyone else get this?

yep, when you hear a kiwi on the TV it is a bit strange, mind you some of the accents up here in scotland are THICK as..!!!

Whats really funny is that people at my work take the piss out of my accent that its stuck with them!

People actually think they sound a bit kiwi now!

people at my work ask me to say pen all the time

so i say is with a right upper class royal accent and give it straight back!

They reckon I'm saying pin....but I'm not dammit. Its better than saying 'pan' like they do.

Yes, I now have a mixed accent.
If I talk with a posh brit, I will mimic them, so that they can understand me better also....

Old sales trick too - mimic the person your selling to and adjust to the speed that they are talking at also

I live with 4 south africans, 7 aussies and one other kiwi and keep continually getting mocked about my thick kiwi accent.

But I've been finding lately that I'm starting to take on an aussie accent.

My south african flatmates cant tell the difference between a kiwi and aussie accent.

They may as well be deaf cos they reckon they cant understand me anyway.

I've found with my job, sometimes it's easier to try and sound like an Aussie over the phone, saves me having to repeat myself.

Problem is.. I think this has sped up the process of me taking on an Australian accent.

I don't particularly linke the rural Ausssie twang.. but NZ'ers sound pretty bad to me these days too.

still got the koiwoi accent. but it is softening. same as wife - talking to aussies on the ph etc.

I've discovered recently that I can tell the difference between north shore sydneysiders and west sydneysiders. mainly because the inner west have that aussie twANg!

yup. crows nest, just up the highway from North Sydney.

Have alot of friends over this side - nth syd, neutral bay, cremorne, mosman, seafort and manly.

Inner West! Livin' here as a Kiwi with a Canadian accent with my man who is British with a Kiwi accent... confused?

I thought perhaps you meant the "West" as in "Wild West" had the Aussie Twang goin on, not Inner West - there is a big difference...
The Inner West is very much like Ponsonby 5 - 10 years ago before all the boutiques moved in. We love it here - 2.5 years now, used to live in Ponsonby / K Rd.
I do work on the North Shore and there is a stereo type attached to North Shore Aussies... have you heard about it?
