Apparently simon cowell is launching a new x-factor show for DJs, featuring DJ testies and DJ sammy as among the Judges!

David Guetta would be perfect as a judge.

Cool! I was thinking of doing the X factor NZ.. just to push myself out of my comfort zone.. wouldn't quite be as bad as that chick who sung that courtney love song.. what's her name..

FTFY
[quote]
timing is right, concept is arse - dance music is hitting the US stadiums big time thanks to wankers like that maus dude

expect loads of bimbos wearing cans looking confused

in short another nail in the coffin of DJ culture
[quote]
what are they gonna do tho? tv format has time for one song.
[quote]
jesus pose
holding cans over one ear
posing for the camera
rip a song off youtube at 192 kbps and add to serato playlist
pretend to cue up mix cd/mp3

music doesn't even need to come into the format

It hasn't for years.

blowjob under dex?
[quote]
I thought about blow job but figure a large chunk of the contestants will be ladies of low self esteem angling for modelling contracts... or socialites just trying to be paris hilton

which I guess could be a show in itself - ladies of low self esteem give head
[quote]
This girl's got to have a chance..

[quote]
nah she called them CDJs turntables... I bet she thinks records are vinyls

*throws up and cries*

This was my instant reaction. I don't have any more issue with this show than any of the other talent/karoake reality shows they do but it just seems far too late?
[quote]
No, not at all. There is a both a new generation who have no idea that they aren't the first and their version is lamer, and, well, the majority of people are so way the fuck behind shit that it's not funny. No this is all new.

I always find the speed at which new ideas, trends, music etc travels through different landscapes and how it changes interesting. A few weeks ago I had to work at a place that pumped ZM. One of the songs that was repeated every couple of hours sounded like, I dunno, Electro I suppose and it had a weird dubstep-like breakdown in the middle. On ZM.
[quote]
zm and the edge play a lot of mcdance

strangely a lot of people like it

and as previously said DJing and dance music has only just started to impact on mainstream america... and its filling stadiums in a manner no old legacy acts (nor top 10 pop acts) shows are anymore

That must be a joke.

That's nothing new though? Sample Gee had a show on ZM over 10 years ago?

You don't remember the "Dance music is finally invading the USA" phase in the mid 90's lead by The Chemical Brothers and Fatboy Slim?
[quote]
yeah but that seemed to appeal top a more trad rock market, ie shows like a rock gig not a DJ set

whereas the current popularity is very much DJ (sic) based and akin to the sorts of things like the big european festivals (like that white party thing in holland?)

also not the rave culture that you'd find in nevada etc

proper stadiums - hollywood bowl for example....

ironically I come across US music execs talking about this shit and they have NO IDEA it all originated in the US... and would prob run a mile if one said black and gay

*shakes head*

This was on during the day, high repeat - not late saturday night.
For sure it's not new but the people are and I guess they are even more mainstream.
[quote]
Bunch of brostep on those stations these days, bare lulz.

Also:

Just sayin'
[quote]
if it wasn't for gee I'd not like dance music....

yeah right
[quote]
How sick would it be to have an NZ flag mixer?
[quote]
tbh I'm more partial to the gold plated Rane 68 they made of last years DMC champ:

Would go well with previous awards:

Darude - Sandstorm was a huge single played at all times. Also 666 - Amokk. That's just a couple of examples.

I used to work at a commercial music store during the early 2000's and we sold shitloads of dance singles, ATB - 9pm till I come etc. And this was in freaking New Lynn! All those singles got bigtime airplay during the day.

Yeah I remember that being a popular explanation for the phenomenon and was especially true in the case of The Chem's and lead to that hilarious soundbite that Fatboy Slim included on his You've Come A Long Way Baby album.

Also on your related tangent, I was playing songs for a friends wedding (whhhhy did I break my golden rule?) a few weeks back and a guy came up to me to complain (as they always do) that the music I was playing was gay. His exact words were: "What the fuck is this faggot shit. This is fucking gay." I turned around and said: "Great! The gay people know the best music to dance to!" The look of pure disgust and puzzlement he gave me... Laughing

It's weird that you can move on so much in life and still find people who are like forgotten relics.
[quote]
It was a Prince song too. Prince boned more chicks in a year than that guy or me will ever bone in a lifetime too. Talk about ironical.
[quote]
You all are bunch of newbs.. you don't need decks/cdjs/cassette players no more. There are andriod/apple apps you can download off the interwebz like the pirate bay to be used as decks on your iphone/ipad/itouch/samsung galaxy phones/tablets etc. Just imagine, mixing in your live phone/skype conversations to your mixes, now that requires real skillz!. It's the next big thing in the DJing culture. They are called DPJs. Disc-less phone jockeys!.

crikey thats awesome fatboi

theres flavoured water these days too

Yum, I love moon pies!

Khloe Kardashian will be heading the judges panel, along with Steve Aoki & Paul Oakenfold.

Frankie Knuckles will be a mentor.

"Im a huge fan of House music so ill be making sure the uber cool Ibizan music of underground stars such as David Guetta will get as much a showcase as Hip Hop and Rock." - Kardashian.

Seriously.
