OOOOOK, here goes:

In the S13 series, a Silvia is a coupe (S13 and PS13) with a notched back, it looks like this: http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/silvia/1992_1/21515/

In the same S13 shape is the RS13 and the RPS13 which are the lift backs like this: http://english.auto.vl.ru/catalog/nissan/180sx/1991_1/19671/
That's a 180sx, which NZ new was called a 200sx, despite being a 1.8 litre (CA18DET).

Pretty much _all_ 180 and 200sxs of that shape are turbo, I think I've only ever seen 1 non-turbo and that might have been a special order.

In the S14 shape I think they're exactly the same...at least no major differences, possibly trim spec or similar.

In the S15 shape they are the same car, they come with both badges I think.
For the years and more details:

Hmm ok I think I get it now, so an S15 spec-r is racing and spec-s is sports?

And an S15 Silvia is non turbo and an S15 200sx is a turbo?

Or am I wrong? Razz

SpecR = Turbo
SpecS = No Turbo

Confused

PFunk has it sussed. Let's start talking about the US domestic 240SX and factory OneVias and really confuse her :>

Yup, s15 200SX is turbo and is generally NZ new as well, whereas s15 Silvias, be it Spec S or Spec R, are all JDM imports (I think this is the case anyway).

*loves his Silvia*

and yeah, that's right Smile Spec-S s15 Silvias are non turbo, I don't think you'll find a Spec-S 15 200SX, only Spec-R.

NZ new meaning they are assembled in NZ? I thought they werent making them anymore?

Lol ok so you cant get a 200sx Spec-r or Spec-s?

NZ New = purchased new in NZ Smile
[quote]
I'm not sure about the S15 thing...I'm sure my mate's had a silvia badge _and_ a 200sx badge NZ New. Could be wrong though!

What he said Smile

Not sure if it applies to the S15s, but NZ new S14s had way more bells and whistles than JDM S14s in the same guise - glass-covered headlights (rather than plastic), sunroof, factory tweeters on the A pillar, 240km/h speedo, and totally different gear ratios as well.

S15 thing - I'm not tooooooo sure, but yeah, you can't get non-turbo 200SX 15s I think. Feel free to prove me wrong Smile
[quote]
I see Smile Well I want an S15 200sx then (I wish) Razz

What have you got Heresy?

1997 facelift S14 Silvia Q's (non-turbo) Smile
[quote]
Cool, not entirely sure exactly how that looks but S14's are nice Smile
[quote]
It's facelifted, so it's got different panels to pre-facelift S14s. Facelift S14s were on sale from late 1996 till early 1999 and are generally quite a bit rarer (and nicer looking.. but I'm biased :> )

same car, different name e.g. Honda in Japan but Acura in the US

blade actually had the most concise answer to her original question.

silvia = japanese, 200sx = nz new

spec levels as hrsy said are the major difference - and yeah, all nz new 200sx's are turbo.

key differences between turbo and non-turbo are brakes, diff, (ratio + no lsd on NA i think) minor suspension changes as well iirc. engine bay harness as well most likely.

Yes the less detail and more to the point the better when it comes to cars. Theres just so much to learn Confused

whats the deal with those? Special motor or something? Wouldn't be a CA18DET still?

SR20DET factory and the sexy round tail lights, I'm not too sure what the other differences are.

nice, that probably fixes up the understeer issue too, that would be a perfect base for a drifter
[quote]
yeah, except they ain't that cheap. They hold their value well, most seem to go for $15k or more.

RPS13 180sx from 91-93 generally come with a red-top SR20DET, it's the ones before that (RS13) that have the CA18DET I think.. too confusing :/ Then they had factory Sil80s for a couple of years and then started the Type-X 180sx? fark knows!

oh how we laughed seeing it back from puke one week covered in mud with all the skirts and airdams in pieces. Very Happy

that thing is _seriously_ low.

pfunk: from what i've seen, most japanese s13's are badged 180sx, even if they had sr20's. so they still don't count under clear's original question.

and yeah, type-x = Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy
