When I first heard 2 step I thought it was complete shit (that Clint Eastwood remix being one of the first 2 step tracks I had heard).
But then I heard Sticky & Dynamite - Boo dubaholics mix and changed my mind a bit.
likin a bit of it-got a big attachment to the form after we did the MJ Cole release party for his Sincere album a while ago with silk cuts.
Been known to drop the occasional two step or garage classic into my house sets from time 2 time.
The bassline from wookie tips gets me every time.
Big ups to those few that are trying to bring it to our ears, its hard with the market being dominated by us househeads and the trance/hardhouse clubs.
I think it's got a lot going for it - garaage in general - not just 2 step - but 2 step has taken on a cheesier than cheese commercialism persona, dark stuff is all good - it's like uplifting drum and bass. The percussion is what I really like about it.
I kile the garagey choons not the rnb ones so much. Problem I have found, is that the difference between a good and a crap 2step choon is very small. Mind you I've got a crate of it so it can't be that bad. bO!!
Otherwise probably best to leave well enough alone & avoid potentially embarrassing situations, as witnessed by the amount of white boy DnB / Breaks heads who like to say things like "big up da massif"
& "ear me now...I iz feelin da one like" all the while having been brought up in a nice middle class white suburb complete with golden retriever & station wagon.
Chief....everyone knows if you like your beats broken then you must talk like a Jamaican toaster from Brixton. How else are you going to get any credibility on the mean streets of Mt Eden ??
For a good starter for 2step via house, chek
Urban Soul Collective's new album, it's got some nice garage tunes and some nice 2step choons feat out own Mark de Clive Lowe
