Okay this isn't a question or much of a discussion really (feel free to make it into one). After mucking around with Joomla, Drupal, CMSmadeSimple & Expression Engine (which is commercial) I decided to try Wordpress.

Awesome! So damn easy and customisable, it almost sells itself short by being tagged as just blogging software. It suits my requirements, but once I have finished my current project I'll be armed with more understanding in which to move on to learning Joomla or Drupal for projects with different requirements.

CMSmadesimple had some appeal due to completely separating design from content, but it annoyed me that the CSS appeared to be stored in SQL so you couldn't open stylesheets in Dreamweaver.

Joomla was alright but a bit messy and overly complex in some ways and it used tables in the default template.

Drupal & Expression Engine I didn't really give enough time to, if the CMS didn't grab me quickly I moved on, cos I just didn't want to waste too much time doing nothing, I wanted to get stuck in.

Anyway, I'll post a link to the site when it's finished. Very Happy

I'm a fan of Joomla personally- most of the sites I build use this. I've built one site with wordpress but ever published it. Did'nt really play around with it long enough to figure it out completely.

Yeah I feel like I need to know joomla.

Even though I'm not sure what it would offer over wordpress, parts of wordpress seem far more flexible like categories in wordpress vs sections and categories in joomla.

Also got a couple of sites I want to build in the future that I'm not sure a standard CMS with work with... but those plans are waaaaay down the line atm anyway.

Smiley - Just remember when you are upgrading your Word Press version...

Best way to do it is download the latest copy of wordpress from their website and just unzip it using filezilla or whatever FTP, except you upload everything BUT the wp-content folder.

What happens when you hit that update button - auto or manually - it overrights all the wp-content folder which is the wordpress folder that contains all the template files.
