I've a new flatmate moving in, and I think i'll need to put in a wireless network so he has access to the Jetstream connection (256kbps).

My setup is a Dynalink RTA220 router/firewall connected to my PC via ethernet. I expect i'll need a wireless hub to plug into it, an interface for the laptop and an interface for my flatmates desktop.

The router only has one eithernet output. Is it possible to get a wireless router that also has an ethernet output? If not, is a PC card wireless adaptor easiest?

The modem sits right next to my PC, so it'd be nice to use ethernet. It has a USB output, but i'd rather stick with ethernet if possible.

I thought we had been through this?

buy a hub/switch and uplink to the adsl router then plug the wifi ap into the switch.

plug your computer into the switch and then get flatmate the wifi adaptor

sorted.

or, you could just get a wireless router *with* a switch

Have a good look at Linksys 802.11G AP + PC Card bundle Wink

I couldn't find the old thread because of the lack of search, and i'm more after recommendations for specific gear.

A combo switch/wireless router would be perfect, because then I could stay cabled and my flatmate could be wireless.

All take a look at that, thanks thechad.

yeah depends if you want to spend extra on the combo when you already have parts.

I want the cheapest gear that will do the job reliably.

Can you get wireless transmitters that just plug into a port on an existing router/switch?

Isn't that what a wireless access point is?
