does anyone use it as a dock/launcher?

Yes, but only for RDP connections. I still use the Quick Launch funtion.

I do, i like how it means the windows stay in the same order for the commonly used ones. I dont let it combine the tabs though and I use double hight to make room.

"combine the tabs" ?

yup, use the shit out of it for all my regular daily apps. makes sense since i previously rolled my own similar solution.

Sorry
"Taskbar buttons: Combine when taskbar is full"
with "Use small icons"

I find having to select and click the window you want from grouped buttons to be a bit of a pain on my work computer as i tend to switch between different windows of the same sort often. Not a big deal i suppose but ive got used to it this way and i find it quicker.

ps I don't like how live messenger works on it with a place holder button and then one for the window but I guess that's a function of minimising to system tray. I haven't tested it with iTunes though.

yeah, that's what is made for

Ahh I follow, so you essentially switch it back to XP/Vista behaviour?

Many minimise to tray apps behave much better if you switch off minimise to tray.

IM apps behave the way you're describing because you have the contact window and the message window, two separate UI items.

kind of - win7 still keeps them and any new windows in the same order/grouped.

Live messenger has a placeholder with no window attached then has any contact list or message windows as extras. Tabbed message windows would be good but not a major for me.

I like win7 for the most part but i still find the layers and layers of option boxes a bit of a pain.

I pin commonly used apps to it. Firefox, Outlook etc.
I quite like the cascading icon effect for multiple windows. Even though its a lot like the 'Group icons of a similar nature' feature from XP and Vista, which I never used, they've gone about it better in 7.

But thats probably because I am betta wiv piktuares than I em wiv weerds Neutral

I use it as a dock/launcher, like OSX.

I found that it was harder to notice the flashing icon on the dock when I receive an IM in Pidgin, so I installed Snarl and PidginSnarl, problem solved.

that's why I moved away from the grouped/combined buttons (for live messenger).
