This pay dispute is certainly very serious. The players are a bunch of self obsessed pricks imo. The provincial players are being offered an 18% pay increase, they will be paid more than NPC players. This is in spite of the fact that no-one even wants to se them play. international players are being offered 11% more, the best paid are already on $300K a year.

I normally back the players but they are way out of line. They want all the money to go to them rather than the grassroots of the game. They can go get screwed and hopefully Martin Snedden can get most of them to sign individual contracts and the prima donnas will get paid what they deserve.

Anyone actually support the players in this one?
[quote]
heh.... I find it hard to have an opinion about men who stand in a field for five days solid, when they're not having tea-breaks... ;o)
[quote]
Perhaps this is time to tell the current players to piss off. We'll go to the bottom of world cricket, but maybe we could start again from scratch.
[quote]
cricket? hmm it usually take me a while to start watching it again the tri one day aussie series looks like its going to be shit and as for the world cup ?

fark going to sth africa there is so going to be a bomb dropped there i mean what the fuck is going to happen when the pakies play india?

all fucking hell is gana break loose
[quote]
who cares?

:p
[quote]
must have cricket, must have cricket

nothing better than watching five days of nothing happening with a cold one for companion
[quote]
yeah, tell em to piss off and let some new blood in!

Hell, maybe it would be a different story if the NZ cricket team were any good, but.....
[quote]
Don't particulary care, Tennis is a much better summer sport...

Razz
[quote]
Fuck the players, what a pack of greedy bastards. Christ lets get some young blood in who actually love the game...
[quote]
cricket.... bpvvvvvvvvmp bpvvvvmp.
[quote]
they look like theyve painted themselves into a corner, and the CTU presisdent saying corporate sponsors should front up with more money? what a dick.
[quote]
I think the New Zealand cricketers should understand that there is only so much money that can be dished out to them. They shouldn't have expectations like how the Aussie cricketers are paid because they are on the whole, better players.
[quote]
whatever happened to doin it for the love of the game... sheesh, ponces.
[quote]
It would appear that the general public appear to be on the side of the NZ cricket board rather than the players on this one ...I think people are getting the impression that they are being greedy, and that will not work in the favour of the players.
[quote]
One of the big issues is the funding of the players association. They want NZ cricket to fund it. The idea of a union being funded by the employer is laughable in the extreme. wtf are they on. They also want $300K for it, to do what!!!!
[quote]
tennis ? what the FUCK better than cricket? ahahaa

hardly
[quote]
This pay dispute is crazy, at the rate its goin we are gonna have such a shit team. Hopefully they resolve there issues and get the fuck on with things
[quote]
Cricket is VERY important, theres no better spectator sport IMO. Even listening to the radio while you potter about in the garden or whatever is good

I do support the NZC but I think they have also been too supported strongly by the media, which is creating a litle too much bias towards NZC.

I will be be well furious if NZ has to field a 3rd eleven, it all counts towards the ratings

Rob Nicol has done the players asociation no favours. If they were going to have crap frontman it might has wel been an ex-internaitonal
[quote]
to second bob...

Who cares?
[quote]
I think you're a couple of trees short of a 'Forest' mate...

Smile
[quote]
some of these crickets need to wake up & have a look
around:

Fact 1, we are average at cricket, ranked no 8 out of 11 in the world

Fact 2, we lose more than we win

Fact 3,our domestic season is very average too, it's no NPC, they struggle to get 300 people to a 4 day state game.

NZ cricket can't just pull money out of no where!

when the dust settles this would have done nothing but damage our summer game!

[quote]
Heh, Fact 1 should read.

Ranked no.8 out of the 11 countries that play it in the world!!

Cricket is the U.S. equivalent of Baseball! Hardly a global sport.
[quote]
The reason sport is discussed on this forum has a lot to do with the fact people can actually talk about it rather than it being full of rugby is crap type comments. If you don't like cricket, fine, go on the lounge and start a thread about it, but don't litter this one with your anti-cricket opinions.
[quote]
Settle mate, just correcting 'so called' facts.

You've been known to litter threads with anti-'insert subject here' opinions aswell!

Can you say hypocrite?

[quote]
Pointless post anyway, but I was commenting on a number of anti-cricket posts rather than the last one of yours.
[quote]
Shaolin thats the one day ratings, in tests we are 3rd/4th (its very close)

Test cricket is the purists measuring stick, not ODI's

Not a bad effort when you consider our countries population, Im sure you will agree ;D
[quote]
Very Happy

Agree I will! Lets hope the issues get resolved and we see some cricket in all its forms this summer.
[quote]
wtf!?

bah!

Wink
[quote]
Sorry, couldn't be arsed taking your bait....

Better luck next time; Very Happy
[quote]
Yeah I'll make my bait somewhat less obvious next time, I was kinda parody baiting really
[quote]
I'll take your bait Mr maestro.
NZ cricket is nothing short of a joke. The players should be paying us to watch there crappy shot making, poor catching and just general shit play.
There is not 1(well maybe 1) world class player in the current team. More pay! Blah. Cheeky pricks!
I for one will be happy if NZ cricket is scrapped all together and they put something worth watching on TV. And while I'm bitching Stephen Fleeming should have been dropped about 3 years ago. Oh yes Maestro bring out the old "look at his average" statement. After so many years at the top one would think his batting average would have gone higher.
There is no place for NZ cricket in my world.
[quote]
baggers bagger baggers...

thats all anyone ever does to our cricket team...

as for 8th in the world you are smoking crack. get your facts straight before you make such stupid statements.

ICC Test Championship Table
[ as at 3 November 2002 ]

Team Played Won Lost Drawn Points Average
1 Australia 13 9 2 2 20 1.54
2 South Africa 17 12 3 2 26 1.53
3 New Zealand 17 8 5 4 20 1.18
4 Sri Lanka 16 8 6 2 18 1.13
5 England 16 6 6 4 16 1.00
6 India 15 5 6 4 14 0.93
7 West Indies 16 6 9 1 13 0.81
8 Pakistan 16 4 7 5 13 0.81
9 Zimbabwe 16 3 11 2 8 0.50
- Bangladesh 6 - 6 - 0 -

but nice try though.

the problem with cricket is that 1 side is so dominant in world terms. no one is in the same league as the australians, and when we get hammered by them everyone thinks we're shit, but really we are no worse than any other sides. we are well and truly up with the play in terms of world cricket, and our players deserve higher pays. having said this however, there is not enough money to pay them, given the negative attitudes of our forever rugby loving (shit-for-brains) country.

cricket was and always will be the classiest sport in the world. as for baseball well you can suck a fat one because only 2, maybe 3 countries even bother to play such a terribly boring sport.

baseball. pfft.
[quote]
and anyone who knows anything about cricket knows that its test matches that are the true test of a cricket player...

so lets not go talking about the travesty that is one day cricket.

although i am with you on the hatred of fleming. good captian. shit player, period.

Smile
[quote]
I bet it will be sorted by the end of the week.
the players all on to too good a wicket
[quote]
ROFL!

It's like shooting fish in a barrel!

The fact of the matter is sports depend on TV coverage, crow attendance and corporate sponsorship for their funding.

The problem supa, is that Cricket, particulary 'test' cricket is about as exciting as watching time pass on a digital clock. It doesn't attract the crowd numbers like other sports, which impacts on both the demand for its coverage or its appeal to possible sponsors.

This will now only be compounded by the ongoing fiasco.

To think that those top 120 players are holding the rest of New Zealand's cricketers for ransom, bunch of greedy, no-talent idiots. They don't deserve what they're getting @ the moment, let alone a pay increase.

I just hope the NZ Cricket Board holds firm, so we can watch those greedy self absorbed pansies posing as athletes grovel on hands and knees for their job back!
[quote]
Test cricket pulls the crowds in other countries ...not in NZ though. I think NZ cricket make most of their money from a cut of gate takings when NZ play overseas.
[quote]
I doubt gate takings in countries such as India, Shri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc amount to much!
[quote]
I love cricket Smile I want to still be able to go to games!! Very Happy
[quote]
Aussie 364-2. Last time England won the toss and put Aussie in to bat at the Gabba was 1954-55, when the Aussies got over 600 runs and won by an innings.

The NZ players should expect a pay rise when they get those sort of scores...
[quote]
NZ has done very well in recent years. They drew the series in Aussie last year, the first team to do that for a hell of a long time. They also scored exactly the sort of score you are talking about in the last test fishboy. The dickhead comments about them being a crap team show peoples ignorance. Third to aussie and SA shows that.

Shaolin - 100,000 indians per day for a test match do generate a lot of income. The teevision rights generate far more, millions of dollars for a tour.

The latest developments look like the player solidarity is ending. Expect a team with a lot of the current test players to face India.
[quote]
I am hoping so South Africa can kick your asses....

ha ha ha ha ha, I am SO joking!
[quote]
Ya...fully check this tune, is it, as well bru?

Wink

Meer I NEVER say look at his average, his average is 37. I know thats not good enough

What I say to you when you rant on about dumping him is.......... fine

Hes dumped

Now........ who are we replacing him with again?

[quote]
Fleming is well worth his test spot. A very classy player with a problem early in his career of never getting to 100. Has fixed that now and is a also the best captain in world cricket. Very similar record to jeremy coney with the bonus of captaincy and being a great first slip. No-one ever said he should be dropped.
[quote]
finally the dispute is sorted and the top cricketers are getn a $120,000 base salary.
[quote]
test cricket is the only hope for western civilisation.
[quote]
boxing day test... mcg... ashes... 80,000 people watching test cricket, all paid at least au$20 to get in the gates... they can't all be wrong...

i understand the crowd attendance is low in new zealand, but once again you show your sheltered opinions. people don't watch cricket here because their attention span is is only about 80 minutes long.

i'm with rattus, cricket is the only hope for western civilisation.

Smile
[quote]
Looks like we will still have cricket fortunately Smile
[quote]
Marks out of 10

nz cricket - 9
nz players - 5
rob nichol - 0 (probably less)

Good job on the cricketers for ditching nichol. He created a very bad climate in cricket for a while and its great that he has been sidelined. dion nash also scores a 0 for his attitude, what a prick. This guy was paid duing all his injury breaks and really looked after and he responds by attacking nz cricket.
[quote]
Dion Nash, great player when fit but over emotive x ultra competitive = Bad loser

great post rattus

*applause*
[quote]
NZC are gonna announce their top um 20 I think it is players today

The top 3, then the next 3 make all the big dosh tho. Im picking these will be

Cairns
Astle
Vettori

then

Fleming
Bond
McMillan
[quote]
Agree with your basic selection but would put Fleming in the top group and probably at 1 at the expense of vettori.
[quote]
Fuck off! Vettori is the best bowler we have and a true world class player. I rate him well above Fleming.
[quote]
Hmmph..... they are keeping the rankings a secret thanks to The Players Association, but here are the 20 contracted players

Andre Adams
Nathan Astle
Shane Bond
Ian Butler
Chris Cairns
Stephen Fleming
Chris Harris
Robbie Hart
Paul Hitchcock
Matt Horne
Craig McMillan
Chris Martin
Chris Nevin
Jacob Oram
The Maestro
Mark Richardson
Mathew Sinclair
Scott Styris
Daryl Tuffey
Daniel Vettori
Lou Vincent

Horne, Butler, Sinclair and Tuffey need to pull finger imo
[quote]
The 3 players I would least like to see injured as they are hardest to replace are cairns, astle, vettori. The ratings reflect that. Fleming is a great captain and good batsmen, but is more easily replaced.
