Will we have cricket this summer?

This pay dispute is certainly very serious. The players are a bunch of self obsessed pricks imo. The provincial players are being offered an 18% pay increase, they will be paid more than NPC players. This is in spite of the fact that no-one even wants to se them play. international players are being offered 11% more, the best paid are already on $300K a year.

I normally back the players but they are way out of line. They want all the money to go to them rather than the grassroots of the game. They can go get screwed and hopefully Martin Snedden can get most of them to sign individual contracts and the prima donnas will get paid what they deserve.

Anyone actually support the players in this one?

I think the New Zealand cricketers should understand that there is only so much money that can be dished out to them. They shouldn't have expectations like how the Aussie cricketers are paid because they are on the whole, better players.

It would appear that the general public appear to be on the side of the NZ cricket board rather than the players on this one ...I think people are getting the impression that they are being greedy, and that will not work in the favour of the players.

One of the big issues is the funding of the players association. They want NZ cricket to fund it. The idea of a union being funded by the employer is laughable in the extreme. wtf are they on. They also want $300K for it, to do what!!!!

Cricket is VERY important, theres no better spectator sport IMO. Even listening to the radio while you potter about in the garden or whatever is good

I do support the NZC but I think they have also been too supported strongly by the media, which is creating a litle too much bias towards NZC.

I will be be well furious if NZ has to field a 3rd eleven, it all counts towards the ratings

Fact 1, we are average at cricket, ranked no 8 out of 11 in the world

Fact 2, we lose more than we win

Fact 3,our domestic season is very average too, it's no NPC, they struggle to get 300 people to a 4 day state game.

NZ cricket is nothing short of a joke. The players should be paying us to watch there crappy shot making, poor catching and just general shit play.

I for one will be happy if NZ cricket is scrapped all together and they put something worth watching on TV. And while I'm bitching Stephen Fleeming should have been dropped about 3 years ago. the problem with cricket is that 1 side is so dominant in world terms. no one is in the same league as the australians, and when we get hammered by them everyone thinks we're shit, but really we are no worse than any other sides. we are well and truly up with the play in terms of world cricket, and our players deserve higher pays. having said this however, there is not enough money to pay them, given the negative attitudes of our forever rugby loving (shit-for-brains) country.

cricket was and always will be the classiest sport in the world. as for baseball well you can suck a fat one because only 2, maybe 3 countries even bother to play such a terribly boring sport.

The fact of the matter is sports depend on TV coverage, crow attendance and corporate sponsorship for their funding.

The problem supa, is that Cricket, particulary 'test' cricket is about as exciting as watching time pass on a digital clock. It doesn't attract the crowd numbers like other sports, which impacts on both the demand for its coverage or its appeal to possible sponsors.

This will now only be compounded by the ongoing fiasco.

To think that those top 120 players are holding the rest of New Zealand's cricketers for ransom, bunch of greedy, no-talent idiots. They don't deserve what they're getting @ the moment, let alone a pay increase.

I just hope the NZ Cricket Board holds firm, so we can watch those greedy self absorbed pansies posing as athletes grovel on hands and knees for their job back!

Test cricket pulls the crowds in other countries ...not in NZ though. I think NZ cricket make most of their money from a cut of gate takings when NZ play overseas.

I doubt gate takings in countries such as India, Shri Lanka, Pakistan, Bangladesh etc amount to much!

Aussie 364-2. Last time England won the toss and put Aussie in to bat at the Gabba was 1954-55, when the Aussies got over 600 runs and won by an innings.

The NZ players should expect a pay rise when they get those sort of scores...

NZ has done very well in recent years. They drew the series in Aussie last year, the first team to do that for a hell of a long time. They also scored exactly the sort of score you are talking about in the last test fishboy. The dickhead comments about them being a crap team show peoples ignorance. Third to aussie and SA shows that.

Shaolin - 100,000 indians per day for a test match do generate a lot of income. The teevision rights generate far more, millions of dollars for a tour.

The latest developments look like the player solidarity is ending. Expect a team with a lot of the current test players to face India.

Fleming is well worth his test spot. A very classy player with a problem early in his career of never getting to 100. Has fixed that now and is a also the best captain in world cricket. Very similar record to jeremy coney with the bonus of captaincy and being a great first slip. No-one ever said he should be dropped.

The 3 players I would least like to see injured as they are hardest to replace are cairns, astle, vettori. The ratings reflect that. Fleming is a great captain and good batsmen, but is more easily replaced.
