I can vouch for the fact that Grinder isn't a 'little teenie boopers... dam maggots". Laughing Laughing

Yes the scene has changed, it called evolution. I get a kik outsee people from all varied music genres at dnb gig. It brings diversity and that is what will keep our scene alive.

There will always be the musty hoodie wearing/CC drinking hardcore devotees, you just got to pick the right gigs, and keep off those disco biscuits.

and i bet you get a kick out of listening to ZM or Classic hits.. you to can join the maggot list! Mr. Green

there is no scene to protect. what scene?
i need an example of a local dnb/jungle night where they actually consistentley play propa dnb/jungle all night. you know, that is worth protecting. the majority just sounds like high end and noise to me now. i think you must have mistaken this gig for some sort of trance gig or the other way around , the 2 genres have been getting too close for comfort in AK for ages.
seen anyone wearing crocs at a gig yet? fluro ones maybe?

I always felt the beauty of DnB was that its not a pretentious scene, it doesnt matter what you wear or how you dance as long as you are there to enjoy the music and have a good time. If people are coming along to dnb gigs in fluro it probably means theyre trying something new, which can only be good to for the scene. With time and more exposure to dnb gigs they will adapt. Rather than look down your nose at them why not say hi to them so they know just what a friendly place most dnb gigs are.

Guess we should ban hot girls from gigs completely, and all the males should be forced to have dreads, wear hoodies and listen to jungle records that were made 13+ years ago..

Umm... hang on, FUCK THAT for a joke

Sounds to me like you're more concerned with looking dark/underground and "biscuiting out of your mind" than you are enjoying the beats. Hence fail.

last time i looked there is a severe lack of not just hot chicks but chicks in general at the gigs, they all dissapeared when the music being played turned to shit and got taken over by the little boys club...now it's mostly just pimply little uneducated boys dancing spastically on the floor on BZP and DJs so high on ego that they can't name one good local night in Auckland that plays consistently good tunes all night

ummm FUCK THAT FOR A JOKE

What gigs have you been going to? Name & shame!

BZPs been gone for ages now, all the kids are on E again now. With that comment alone I wouldn't be surprised if you haven't even set foot in a club for at least a year

Plenty of hot girls at the gigs I've been going to of late.. More than I have ever seen after a decade of being a drum and bass fan (although I am selective with the gigs I go to these days)

There's a few quality local nights out there that actively combat the SHITE that makes up 90% of modern drum and bass music; Your Sound (Phantom's gig) Lead The Way (my own) and In Depth (Cern) for example are all focussed on proper underground music first & foremost..

But I guess seeing as we're not playing the music that suits your own personal opinion, we're not 'ardkore? Maybe we should play 2 hrs worth of antiquated amen jungle just for the sake of "keeping it real"? Hah.

Just glanced at this topic and have to say aggree with a lot of what grind and Iwi are saying.
I used to go to drum n bass gigs avidly but as of late have been super selective.

I laughed to hear people are now wearin flouro to gigs (what is it now - nu rave??) but it dosen't suprise me at all. People are entitled to do/wear what they choose, that's the way it should be but event's will atract who they cater for. If the flouro crowd can identify with the style of music played sure the're gonna turn up. Which is why I've long since given up on such events

I heard Phantoms gigs are wicked, I'm not into Cern's style of music but I'm sure it's underground and I've yet to check yours Grind (though the Amit gig sometime ago was first class!). Recently I've concentrated on dubstep gigs as the vibe I know and love is at these events.

As for high heels??? can't see the problem. Dirty trainers and dreads is a false image of drum and bass which came when rock musicians started to get involved. Another topic!

But - Please, please no more amen/jungle sarcasm. Sure this sound is synonomous with old skool events but the underground movement is still strong and cutting edge albeit small these days.. I'll name gigs if required ..

If your truly into drum n bass old or new you should have respect for this legendary break or at least know what it is (flouro crew)if an event was to concentrate on this style it may not attract mainstream partygoers or make heaps of cash but you'd be guaranteed a quality knowledgeble crowd with little or no flouro..

So Respect to all, Drum n bass, Dubstep and Jungle partygoers who are passionate about this scene for the music - We know we have the best time and if you're bothered about the crowd at your chosen event it's time to move on and look deeper. Sure things move on, not always for the better - Quality is still out there if you're prepared to find it..

Now where did I put my white gloves?
