Interesting no mention of Marcus Schultz. If I voted for trance dudes (which I didn't Razz ) he'd definitely be on my list. He has easily eclipsed most other trance DJ's I've seen in the last year: Scott Bond, PVD, Paul Trainer (youd hope he would though really), even Tiesto by a hair.

Eddie Halliwell and Sander van Doorn would be up there as well but thats slightly biased coz they play a lot of progressive and tech respectively in their sets these days...

And Rank 1 and Matt Darey rounding out the list, again because they've cut a lot of the fass of yesteryear and played more techy and progressive stuff.

My 2c

Booya!

Hernan = best gig I've been to all year. 6 hours of just Hernan on a Thursday night on the floor above the skydeck of this...

Heard Pappas new compilation? Tis pretty epic eh Music
[quote]
Pappa is so underrated. Sean Quinn and the rest of the Melbourne brigade are fucking good...but Pappa is world class in my humble opinion.

Totally agree, Pappa = total legend!

I was ranting along similar lines to this (re: the other Melbourne boys) in the ITM Top 50 poll results thread in the Lounge the other day too. No Sean Quinn, no Phil K, Gus Cullen, Harley Augustine etc...

Not that I'm suggesting DJ polls are any indication of how good a DJ is... or anything more than the overblown popularity pissing contest they are for that matter Razz

Oh wait, what thread am I in again? Embarassed

Armin doesn't make my top 5 this year. REally haven't liked where he's headed.

Above & Beyond are my standouts.
[quote]
See what you're saying re where he's headed musically. But still what he's done to the dance music scene on a world wide scale is pretty hard to beat. Still easily the no.1 crowd pleasing DJ for me with amazing stage presence and energy even through the 8 hour sets. The Armin Only shows he did last year were pretty impressive and the only other trance dj to do anything to a similar scale is Tiesto..but not sure you can even call Tiesto a trance dj Confused

so he still gets in the top 5 spots for me Music

A & B should no doubt move up the ranks this year i'd imagine.
[quote]
Nah Tiesto is just a pop DJ. I heard he's collaborating with 3 6 Mafia. That says it all.

How much of that stage presence do you think is due to him being the number one DJ in the world?

TyDi had bucketloads of stage (and djbooth presence)...
[quote]
His stage presence is no different from well before he was no.1 to now. Only his shows are much much bigger.
Ha.. funny you mention TyDi. To me all of TyDi's stage presence style is a bit too similar to Armins. Even doing the standing up on the decks thing. Armins done this for years.. and I saw TyDi do this at TE in Melb last year and also heard he did it at Studio few weeks back Wink

Yeah I recognised a few moves out of Armin's text book. Very very similar.

You know who has even bigger stage presence? Eddie Halliwell.

Quoted for truth.

Eddie pretty much wrote the curriculum Razz
[quote]
ya the dives off the stage into the crowd.

brilliant.
[quote]
1. above & beyond
2. Armin van Buuren
3. Cosmic Gate
4. Bart Classen
5. Tydi

anyone who saw A&B last year should put them number 1 their progression, mixing and the atmosphere they created were above anyone else ive seen.

Cosmic Gate desreve to be up there coz of how much they have influenced the style of the trance being produced this year...they have an awesome sound.

and after seeing Classen at Vaccine the other week blew me away wot a DJ really impressed me Smile
[quote]
yeah Eddie and Armin can get away with that behaviour...Tydi...well...hes good and all that but um...hmm.. I think he should save it til hes been around a bit longer.

Mind you its kind of hard to make that statement when he just got himself voted #1 in Australia again. But I think the impressionable girls will probably be over him dancing on the table by next year.
[quote]
21 or so and main rooms trance energy i think he deserves our vote.

Love his style aswell you walk away is such a tune!

good times when he dropped it at ministry Music

Yep such a brilliant moment. Crowd surfing DJ at Home in Sydney two years back!! Bit hard to compete with EH on that matter Music

1.Roger Shah
2.Armin
3.A&B
4.Aly & Fila
5.Jaytech

Justification;
1. His productions get better and better, radio show too. Havn't seen DJ live yet but from video of ASOT 400 playing keyboard live just ads another element.
2. Continues his high standards, productions not as good but still good enough. He went through a lull in what playing end of last year but this year is back to his best, radio show is still the standard at which all others are meansured against (and seeing him on Sat at SW4 Very Happy )
3. Improving in every aspect every year, saw the photo's of their new live show in beirut, am sure they could be the next chemical brothers in terms of live shows. (also SW4 Mr. Green )
4. Best uplifing radio show week in week out, productions always dancefloor killers.
5. Pick of the Anjunadeep sound that is getting bigger and bigger, new radio show this year and still many great productions.

I think any DJ that has a stage presence at all is doing well. How many DJs have we seen come all the way from the other side of the world and just stand there? Loads. Your lucky to get a hand the air from most of them Razz
