I was....
I got into prog house around 94/95... at the time I bought a whole load of Rennaisance CD's which I thought were really cool and I was amazed at how they sounded like one track.... (I had no idea what a DJ was, let alone a record!)
Then I found BT... whom I love to this day!
Then I bought this CD called Northern Exposure... it was a great CD, one of my faves... I was really impressed by what I assumed was the husband and wife duo of John Digweed and Sasha Digweed....

Ahhhh whoops!......

Anyone else have 'munter punter' stories?

My pommy flatmate got pissed of with me playin Fear Factory one day and forced me to listen to "Essential Selection: Tong/Cox/Sasha/Oakenfold"
The next day I decided I wanted to be a DJ - 3 and a half years later I finally got round to buying some decks. I blame the delay in this essential career move on my negative friends at the time.
To whom I would like to say now:

Chemistry
Lagered
Renegade (bout 6 times)
George FM (twice)

I have been a long time fan of the more mainstream brit-dance acts like Underworld, Coldcut, The Orb, Orbital, BT (first songs I heard were Flaming June, Love Peace and Grease!) etc since about Form 2...a few friends had a wee mp3 network trading thing that we setup.

I discovered progressive when I chanced upon Sasha's Ibiza CD (it had just been released). Basically I liked the look of it and had heard of Ibiza and the shininess in general of the GU releases made me buy it. I got home and like cauld was amazed at the fact it sounded like one track. I had really never heard anything remotely like it and listened to it pretty much every day...

Then went on to get the NE CDs which I thought were amazing, got a few of the GUs - warren, digweed, seaman etc. I got hold of hybrid which I thought was wicked. I bought my first vinyl around that time - it was 2Pac - Changes (!), very munter indeed. But I still have it to this day Smile

ahh...the memories. I still remember a time when I would put on a gu CD at a 5th/6th form party and got asked "what the fsck that shit was." How times change...

What was everyone into prior to Dance music?

My collection consisted of stuff like Jean Michael Jarre, Mike Oldfield, Vangelis, Brian Eno....

My first ever CD was Queen Greatest Hits Voll II as a B'Day present.

I think somewhere though I even have the Europe-Final Countdown Cassingle...

I still am a munter punter

I would rather listen to 'The Rock' these days then dance music & I would also rather go see a band than a DJ. I've come full circle & arrived back at the conclusion that my first instincts were correct & that yes it does just sound like the same record all night.

Paying money to see some guy play other peoples records.....pfffffttt !
