Nowhere near as strong as it should be. If anything I think the techno scene has gone backwards in the last couple of years. The lot down at Fu are still doing techno on a regular basis but that's about it. It's strange considering lightspeed a couple of years ago was able to bring over names like Carl Craig, Dave Angel and Kenny Larkin as HEADLINE acts for 2-3000 capacity gigs, Chelsea was down at calibre playing good tech-house, bringing over people like Terry Francis, Eddie Richards, Mrs Wood - and the punters seemed to be loving it.
Jump forward to the present and you've got crap like Deep Swing being able to fill a 2000 capacity gig. (No offense to the promoters - just not my cup of tea) I'd say most of the crowd going are there because they've heard 1 track by Deep Swing (in the music) - from all reports they're not even particularly stirling dj's.
Seems a real shame which is why people should be be getting behind the promoters who are going out on a limb like Matt & Myles of Bamboo and the Fu bunch. The events they put on are definately not going to pull a whole heap of cash in Ak's current environment so I reacon they need all the support they can get.
