Bob, that could be one of the strangest things Ive ever seen.

I remember an interview with Mr Rotten, and he was showing his disgust for the resurgence of punk (late 90's) claiming it wasnt punk but a fashion statement.
This confused me because his band (pistols) was the original Spice Girls. A manufactured fashion statement from the very unclean minds of Malcom McLaren and Vivian Westwood.

Sex pistols might have been akin to the spice girls but they sure can't be compared to the spice girls - one rocked and helped change the face of music/fashion, the other were gobshite annoying and changed nothing bar their bank balances and beckhams chance of happiness

That Leftfield track is sooooo money Bob. I recorded of my 12" a while back... The full 12" mix is so bad-ass compared to the shorter Leftism version. The pacing of the intro is just so much better/epic.

Yeah I agree with the "Cali Punk" thing so long as your talking mainstream. There was/is plenty of non generic cali stuff with its roots firmly planted in the punk/hardcore cannon. Funny thing is he was responding to a question about Green Day, and they were doing their best to imitate scum/oi oi punk. Why does Billy Joe Armstrong sing with an English accent when he's from the State's?

As for the Spice Girls you left out that they taught our under 12 year old girls how to dress like a hooker!

Cali punk - I call that stuff which Epitaph and Fat Wreck pushed, pop punk a lot of it, has a very obvious sound (unlike the hardcore bands who were a mix of shite and awesomeness) - course there are exceptions... Rancid were an awesome clash tribute band and green Day's first two albums were pretty good (though why anyone would want to be like the oi bands I dunno... yes mister I'd like to be thick as pig shit, dabble in ultra violence and rascisim whilst proclaiming my working class roots please)

I could go on all day but then who'd smoke my fags... *walks off for a "breather"*

Oh man, this album is so classic

Can't pick a favourite track from it, there's about 5 jostling for selection.

Was never a massive fan of 'open up' though, think I got into this album through 'song of life' and 'afro-left'.

'Afro-Left' used to be a peaktime tune at Redzone. Such an awesome club tune. 'Space Shanty' wasn't far behind either.
