Also this week...

Hundarna Fran Soder - Regn
Quasimoto - Bus ride
Dubchild - roll that shit
Hexstatic - distorted minds (zero db remix)
Si begg - futureisnow

Speaking of diplo i found his mashup of radiohead 'sit down stand up' and some crunk hiphop rapping which I'm enjoying a lot.

I'm with scribmo and codepeople... lovin' "Signs" by Snoop/Timberlake/Pharell. Mr Williams has done a decent job on Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl", too. But favourite pop song of the moment is gotta be Amerie "One Thing"... I could watch that video all day long.

House-wise...
Sir Piers & Los Amigos Invisibles ft Shaun Escoffery // "She's Gone Away" // Curious
Kerri Chandler // "Six Pianos" // Deeply Rooted House
Reel People ft Sharlene Hector // "Rain" // Papa
Steel Vybe ft Rich Medina // "Spiritual Life" (Quentin Harris Mix) // Spacekat
Kerri Chanlder // "Bar A Thym" // Nite Grooves

originally originating from the same dingy Newmarket warehouse that produced the likes of State of Mind and the Fast Crew. One half of NSPC Matt (Hooch) has been writing house/funk for a good 5 or so years now... fully a name to watch out for Pink Winky

Here's an album I'm liking.

The new Fischerspooner album 'Odyssey'.

It's been a long time coming so I was looking forward to it.

They were talking about it being a 'prog rock' record but it's similar to the first one - very cold/clean electronic but with a few extra touches like guitars and drums.

You have probably haera the Thin White Duke remix of the single 'Just Let Go'.

The album version is cool too.

Even though they have Mirwais and Spike Stent producing a few tracks it's still very Fischerspooner (thank fuck for that).

IMHO no-one sounds like them.

Another interesting thing is that David Byrne contributes lyrics to a track but thankfully they don't get him to sing on it.
Much as I like David Byrne he has done lame-ass vocals on Xpress 2 'Lazy' and Theivery Corporation's latest album - lame, lame, lame.

Graet to see FS niot cashing-in on the 'guest vocalist' thing and sticking to it themsleves (Lizzy Yoder's sublime vocals are cool too).

You'll either love it or hate it but Fischerspooner produce modern pop music as it should be.

I liked it so much I bought the lovely double LP vinyl version and the ltd. edition CD which has a couple of remixes and stuff.
[quote]
a `free' rekkid i got yesterday, as in I bought the 12" fer the a side, thats completely blown me away....

ain't no mountain high enough - Inner Life (Larry Levan mix)

not even a slice of cheese on this re-make...

i'm in love again.... such a choon slut.
[quote]
I'm digging the new Washhouse, Carter and the Freaks once again show me why I love em so much

can't wait for the new Freaks album too

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh

and I can't help but wonder what Classic will do once they hit catalogue number one.....

been a bloody good year for tunes so far

Nine Inch Nails - The Hand That Feeds

Sounds like a dance track on Coke...that wicked little moog synth jiggle has been running round my brain for days!! Remix please!
[quote]
I think you can legally downlaod the single to remix - so go for it Beesting!

NIN have always been big on synths and stuff.

Check out the video for the new single - Looks like the keyboard player is playing an ancient ARP 2600 - cool!
[quote]
Hey TP, you got 'Garageband' for mac?? My friend has downloaded all the samples but they're in garageband format.

I thought it looked like a moog he's playing, but ya might be right!

yep...

I guess you'd have to export each track as a wav or aiff or something?

beesting said:

it's one of the white faced ARPs which are not as common.
Anyway, I'm suprised he's using it - pretty fragile - looks good in a video though eh.
[quote]
Correction - not an ARP 2600 but an ARP Odyssey.

Which funnily enough brings us back to the title of the Fischerspooner album.
I wonder if there was some kind tie-in with that synth in the album title?
[quote]
are they playing the video on C4? keen to check it out.
always been a big fan of NIN, i can actually remember quite well when Head Like A Hole was released. it was around 1989 or 1990, so that makes me feel old!
[quote]
Yeah the video is on C4.

Quite cool - low-res and a camera mounted on a automated tracks - very angular.

Deep - lol

Managed to get my hands on a copy of Luke walkers 'Alias" the other day... Damn its good... NZ house reprezent!! Also Luke and Loki's " Dirty secret " and "Seamrider" top class.
I'm also still getting good mileage out of :

- Geyster's "bye bye superman"
- Beastie boys "black beast"

And last but not least Stanton Warriors vocal remix of Alter ego's "rocker"

Chur.

Loving: Wighnomy Bros, live and hairy at club Yellow last night!! So good, best night out since I got bodyslammed at the Pete Rock gig last week.
They played some kind of Boards of Canada fast re-edit, and top moment when they dropped the accapella to that house song
(Sorry I'm a bit thick) - the one which has the big screaming reverbed sermon about 'this is our house music'? What's that??

Fumiya Tanaka was good too, wasn't he Nick?

Renato Cohen - Nova/Vodu (Sino 11), very fun
Mpho Skeef - Comin For Ya (Phuturistix mix on Phuture Lounge)
One Million Dollars - Get Off (Manuel Bundy rmx)

. Top stuff. It's a cool song. A good example of a remix doing all the right things, in all the right places. Why is this not a NZ summer anthem??

What's slaying my floor...or, to be more precise, what WILL be slaying my floor, once I get my hands on them.

MALCOLM MACLAREN - Buffalo Girls
MSFB - Philadelphia Freedom
JIMMY 'BO' HORNE - Dance Across The Floor

Thanks to trademe no less... And curse the only other person that seems to buy funk and disco on trademe...I almost won Salsoul Orchestra's greatest hits. If you lurk on these boards, beware!!!

In other news, the new 13 & God album. A collabaration btw members of Themselves, The Notwist and Anticon. Epic sprawling rock stuff. Sorta like GSYBE, but without the pomp. And... JUSTUS KOEHNCKE - SCHWABYLON. Free Kompact mp3 I got from some website. Mid tempo housey/funk. Go the vocoder!!!
[quote]
i have been toying with that jimmy bo horne choon at home fer the last couple of weeks, considering making a big dumb disco house ting out of bits of it..........
