Yes eclectic nights are good. A friend and myself used to play large amounts of audio randomness at the old bar bodega in Welly once a month-ish.
Anything from Synth pop to Plone to Friedman to Beige, anything goes.
I haven't found anything quite like it in Auckland, but we got a substantiually small but still substancial group of people who would come.
