His debut Come Get It! w/ 'Mary Jane' and 'You and I' is worth checking out. Street Songs is probably the other...But in saying that, I am sure most of his LP's have a song or two that are redeeming...He was one of the few artists producing decent records on Motown in the early-mid 80's IMO.

Did you know he was once in a band w/ Neil Young and Bruce Palmer?? They were known as the Mynah Birds...crazy.

Its snowing hard out here today!! Mr. Green
[quote]
websta: you mean Ben Westbeech "So Good Today"? You heard Afefe Iku "Body Drummin"? Be right up your alley - frustrates the hell out of me 'cause it doesn't go anywhere despite the fact that lately I'm well into my tunes that don't do anything.

beesting: that Quentin Harris "Haunted" tune sounds like it needs someone to engineer it (much like all QH's stuff does). In fact I've heard a bootleg mix of it where they've tidied it up, kind of like Ashley Beedle's edit of "Let's Be Young". Quentin's an amazing ideas man and can play lots of instruments (including the skin flute) but I think he needs a production partner.

The tune I'm loving at the moment is Galaxy 2 Galaxy "Hi-Tech Jazz" 'cause it snowed this morning and, I have no idea why, but it seemed like the perfect tune to have on repeat on my ipod as I kicked through the snow on the way to work.
[quote]
Yeah, you're right scandal, the pressing is crap (that or the mastering), I love the tune but you have to gain the crap out of it and EQ it carefully to make it work. Weird how people can release average production in this day and age of such sublime technical wizzardry, you'd think he'd just pay an engineer to come round for an hour and properly EQ the mix!!! Spose if you've got the name, labels don't ask questions!
[quote]
fuck production
[quote]
oops yeah scandal thats the 1.

Kids in the street - keep on turning (motorcitysoul mix)
Ben Westbeech - So good today (osunlade mix)

real similar tunes, but still no excuse....

I didn't notice the production on those 2 tunes, perhaps thats from years of listening top Theo Parrish records..... the worst engineer ever!

Drumtrax, i am a bit scared of playing that.....
tis mad and the radioslave is a bit dark fer the set i got.....

maybe i am just a pussy?

Got an old cd from Germany yesterday that has me filled with happy this morning

Sucking Chest Wound - God, family, Country

I thought it was mandatory to like Depeche Mode if you're into techno Razz

I've been listening to the Ame RA mix and have gotten into it from there, think they pitch it up a little. It's not unfeasibly long for Villalobos - have you heard Fizheuer Zieheuer?? It gets a reaction (albiet a bad one from you) which sets it apart from the millions of good/great but not mindblowing minimal that is around.

I have written a review which should be in next week's Groove Guide (wednesday-ish), if anyone wants to know a bit more about it ...

I was just flicking through the album review over at RA and this paragraph caught my eye:
"This is music for imagining a utopian future to, for dreaming of running through alpine fields with that cute girl on the other side of the dancefloor and for hoping that this tune lasts forever and you never have to open your eyes"

The Field - From Here We Go Sublime LP

I may have to get the LP when I find it. I really like 'Over The Ice' ...

Slaying my floor:

Sally Shapiro - I'll be by your side/I Know
Larry Heard - The Sun Can't Compare (Long Version)
Luomo - Really Don't Mind (Radio Edit)
Kleerup (ft. Robyn) - With Every Heartbeat
Joakim - Monsters & Silly Songs
(Not totally sold on the whole thing, but 'Love-Me-2' has been on repeat)
ZYX - The Italo Disco Collection (4LP box set)

Maybe it's the weather, but a song like 'With Every Heartbeat' and those Sally Shapiro 12"s would have grated endlesssly only a month or so ago, but now their cheese is totally endearing (and on repeat endlessly)... Go figure. Too much Italo or something ... Are these records part of a new movement?? These pop-house/modern disco tracks are fantastic (not sure if they would work on a dancefloor, but they make great headphone fodder).

Ant U-Tern's 'Body Work Vol. 1' mix ... Highly recommended!!!
50+ boogie/disco/electro tracks in a little over an hour, with some nice vocal overlays, dubs and effects. A google search should find a direct link easily enough ...
[quote]
seeing as an order arrived today -

Menomena - Wet and Rusting
and because it popped up in my playlist yesterday from the Smagghe Fabric
Poni Hoax - Budapest (joakim italo dub) very keen to hear this Joakim full length

Anderson Noise & Marco Lenzi - The Deal

Steve Miller Band - Macho City (Capitol)

Not the Macho City / Abracadabra split 12" that Discogs has listed, but the Macho City 12" w/ the single verision, and the fanstastic 'extended' (15 min + ) version that was used on the Joey Negro/Sean P 'Disco-Not-Disco' comp on BBE.

Aleem - Release Yourself (NIA)

Finally landed the 12" I have been after for ages ... Much better than all the other stuff of theirs I have. '84 release that somehow sounds like the best parts of techno, soul, hip-hop, freestyle and disco at one ...

Yellow Magic Orchestra - Tighten Up (A & M)

The Archie Bell & The Drells orig. is a certified classic, but this version is about 100 times more fun ...

There's a Skull Disco complilation coming this month Websta. I got the "Soundboy's Ashes Get Chopped Out And Snorted E.P" the other week - very cool stuff. Think the villalobos remix is out now/shortly - finally Smile
