What to buy??

I want to start dreaming of a new car but need to know what to think of!

Needs to be:
no more than $15 k
4 door
safe for little people to ride in
Must have comfortable driver seats with lumber support
will need to be auto
Need tyres that don't cost the earth to replace.

Will keep this car for at least 5 years so will need to be a goodie.

so... what make, model etc do you suggest.

Yeah accords are really nice if you want something a bit flasher. Otherwise a civic sedan would be good too - a little smaller, and a smaller engine, but probably more than enough for you guys.
Otherwise there's always Nissan Primeras, which tend to be great cars, or perhaps Toyota Corolla sedans as well.

yeah - prefer to buy a family car don't want to have to buy a bigger car later on down the track. haha no plans yet but just being practical.

Primera wagon? Considering you're looking ahead the extra load space will be handy. Plus with a house, handy for those trips down to Placemakers/Palmers.

Slightly bigger, a Stagea wagon. Rear wheel drive, Skyline engine powered.
