Biggie v4 will start being released to mods in the next couple of weeks which is rips all the login/mybiggie/forum stuff out and replaces it with something that does what we want it to...

Once thats done what else should biggie do?

Quick Jump links down the bottom like we use to have.

One feature that is pissing most people off is the "Been here before" screen. I recon get rid of it.

Tag lines should only be changed by admins Wink

Thanks

If you add signatures, allow preferences to switch it off.

I dunno if it's a good idea or not (I think it is, it might encourage more posts in other forums apart from the lounge), but perhaps a link to today's posts no matter what forum they come from. To see an example: http://printplanet.com/

Not a forum thing but you guys really need to promote the site in clubs/parties again at the same time as the launch.

I'm assuming this will be gone. Obviously there still needs to be a "you're not logged in" screen, but the current one should never be seen again. Ever.

and edit function - and if there is some philospohical reason not to then just make it for a few minutes.

a good search function

make it so it doesnt take you to the same page you were on if you've been still for a while.
Edit function was avoided cos every man and his dog wanted to sue every other man and his dog about every single post on biggie. That seems to have calmed down a bit these days...
Could you add a feature whereby you give everybody a hotness rating. That way we needn't waste our time spading on ugly people.
Actually if you could rate threads or posts. Nice sense of appreciation without clogging up the forums with "nice post".

- An exhaustive search function. So many old threads I've wanted to find that seem lost forever Sad

- Smiley's thread-rating function sounds awesome

- Bring back Biggie Pacman! That was awesome. But make sure no one can hack it. Some of those scores last time were dubious AZ.

- More personal stats. I like stats Razz

- Points. Competition is good :>

For the constructive comments:

Yes:

- There will be a points system called your "Bar Tab" and you'll have some recognition under your name and status

- Rating threads i'll look into 'cause we'll add a rating thing to most parts of the site. Where in the hell do threads get "clogged" with "nice post" comments now!?

- Everyone will have avatars and statuses

Maybe:

- Editing probably still wont happen although it wouldnt be hard to implement with control over it now

- Search, we'll build google's search in better, I know it misses threads now but there really is no point in us doing our own, we just have to fine tune the google one, they've released a new version since we put that in.

No:

- Signature will never happen.

- Dont think games will happen again soon

Huh:

- Whats this peat: "make it so it doesnt take you to the same page you were on if you've been still for a while."???

Wish we could do a hotness rating!! Laughing

they don't. But there are times I've held back showing my appreciation because I thought it might be annoying or something... y'know..

would it not be a concern to be splitting topics out when posting traffic is low?

Sydney gig guide!

I have no idea whats on here... i don't know any DJ's (well maybe 1) and usually have no ideas what parties are on.
There are heaps of biggies in Sydney now so why not?

Actually maybe biggie should go global!
I can see it now... Biggie taking over the world.

Here's a feature request:

Keep it simple. Don't complicate the pages. Biggie is extremely fast-loading because we don't have DOA sized signatures and avatars, and imo that's definitely a pro for viewing in a work environment.
We could pretty easily get pacman going. Even if we just link to another site with it loaded on there if there are any issues of security or similar

BTW - those scores were real. People like Grant Marshall/General Lee (one of those two) used to sit there playing the game for hours.

We will be covering the odd big events in Sydney with photos as we have so many people there so we might as well give them something to look at. That's about it at this stage.

Photo comments will be re-added when that section is redone. I have had feedback along the lines of - "I like to submit my photos to another site because people can comment on them/ more fun".

I've also spotted a cool idea for photos which another site uses which we may integrate.

Ohh - and what I would like. Signatures just for me so I can promote Biggie stuff in the forums. Thanks. Froggy LOL
Yeah, photo comments is not exactly a new feature. More like a missing feature from the current incarnation of biggie. It was cool when we used to be able to add comments to photos. Definitely made viewing them more interesting.
I think we have the old comments in the database.

Be funny to read some of them again.

On another forum I visited you could tag a URL to an MP3 with [mp3] [/mp3] and it would come up as a small mp3 player for the file. The 1pixelout player is ideal.

Very handy, especially for a media focused site like biggie.

A biggie app for Facebook, whereby if someone created a [new topic] it would update their facebook feed, like a blog. It would show some of the topic [x characters] and then people could click read more or reply and it'd take them straight to the Biggie forums.

This might encourage people to start putting some effort into posts.. It also means if I post a new topic for a gig, it automatically get's cross posted to my Facebook profile and more importantly drives traffic for anyone interested to Biggie.

Or are we still trying to avoid social networking sites at all costs?
We have never tried to avoid them at all costs, you just dont know the strategy, aaaaaand nor do you need to?

I think so. The current method works reliably, I can post YouTube videos but think how it is for new users? Also old users that aren't that technically minded.

(confusing as hell)
We'll probably implement it, but I know it wont be any easier for new poeple and they'll still fuck it up

I'm not really interested tbh, if you've got the template, EC2 whatever that means, and the resources you might want to get it sorted so you can claim to be the first nz dance site to implement and really take advantage of it.

Your strategy is your business, but this is something no one else has done yet and I think you'll find it could seriously benefit Biggie from an advertising & membership capacity, too.

Up to you, but your reply makes it sound as if you're not interested in putting any real effort into new innovative features when you could sit here debating whether to turn on forum features like signatures that have been around for years on competing sites..

Well, if people can't use it. We will just misuse the new push messages system... that will force people to read and confirm the message before they can continue using the forum Music
I really can't see the big problem with being able to edit posts as long as they are the last post. As soon as someone posts under it, it's uneditable.

Although I suppose nobody wants to get into an argument about it, especially in such a constructive thread I would like to say that it seems that just about every forum on every subject around the world appears to let users edit their own posts, and their worlds haven't collapsed. Sure there are the odd threads that one comes into and has no idea what was edited out ("This post was edited by blah blah at xMadx pm"Wink, but really, it should be the right of the poster to edit their own words. They created them, they own them.
Editing would be ok as long as you put like a 5 minute time limit or something.
Hmmm...I have a few ones

The buttons across the top that add HTML function to a post e.g. url, etc. Can we have ones that are more regularly used e.g. img…who ever uses url as it automatically picks that up the link in a post anyway?

If you turn a word into a link, it adds all the necessary characters to do so (the “[“ and =”http://www ... etc) and automatically underlines it and turns it a different colour too, so it’s clear the word is a link to another page/site.

Avatars, if you must add them, only jpgs not gifs. It’d dodgy enough as it is trying to look at biggie at work without moving images all over the show…and an approval process to avoid dirty pr0n ones.

I always keep getting logged out if I leave the page idle for more than a few minutes.

Make the icon for threads the user has posted in slightly different.

This is REALLY handy on another forum I use. It's got slightly bigger icons than biggie and they include a * as part of the icon if the user has posted in the thread.

I was thinking for pure comedy, a global ignore set by admins. If some dick comes on, instead of banning them, just put them on ignore. They post and post and post and wonder why no one gets rarked up and everyone just ignores them. They eventually leave deflated.
