Hi,

I know we are the land of Rugby...but I love watching
"The Tennis", womans and guys.

What Is Your Favourite Spectator Sport ?

Aaron Riddell
[quote]
what is spectator sport? that there's people watching?

simple answer: football

other nominees would be boxing or wrestling, as they make good atmosphere
[quote]
1. Cricket

2= League/Golf

3. Fashion TV
[quote]
I quite like netball *shame*

And rugby, then test match cricket. AFL is interesting to.

Soccer and league have to be the worst spectator sports in the world. It only goes to show if you simplify any set of rules to the level even a moron would understand, you'll pull an audience irrespective of the games actual merits.
[quote]
You lost all credibilty ITT with your 1st sentence Razz
[quote]
League (NRL)
Cricket (ODIs)
Rugby (test)
Basketball (NBA)
Tennis (mens)
Golf (highlights)
Motorsport (rally)
Skateboarding (street)
Snowboarding (pipe)
Surfing (big-wave)
Other wacko "extreme" sports
Probably some more I've forgotten too
[quote]
And football obviously! Not really up with the play these days though..

It's not a sport, more entertainment Smile
The dudes are physically fit and take bumps like sports people, but with predetermined outcomes, can't class them with sport.
[quote]
For me though...

Number one by far would be league, folled by Cricket, in all forms, the Olympics arew always cool to watch as an event, football can be quite exciting....

then rugby, if it's on I will watch, don't make an effort to though Razz

So you like sports with constant stoppages where they constantly have to change the rules to keep it interesting?
[quote]
My favourite spectator sport is watching bitches in the kitchen, cleaning up the mess they made while cooking me eggs.
[quote]
LOL @ fish boy denouncing League because of it's simplicity, and then nominating the most simple, and possibly shittiest, sport in history designed with the most basic of skill sets in order to suit chicks Laughing

I nominate:

Basketball

**Daylight**

Cricket
League
Rugby
[quote]
beach volleyball.
indoor volleyball.
[quote]
Football!
[quote]
Football => boxing => mixed martial arts => league => rugby => cricket => tennis => NFL => baseball in that order.

Will watch any of the first three whenever given the chance. Will only go out of my way to watch anything other than my preferred teams play for the first five sports though, and tennis and NFL need to be major events before I will make an effort.

Ahh, this will explain why you're a Man Utd supporter then. You demonstrate the perfect amount of passion for and understanding of the game so you're an ideal fit.
Actually you're missing a single vital trait. If you were from Asia or the Middle East you'd be perfect; as it is you're still pretty damn close tho Wink ^_^

Nah African used to support Arsenal but tend to support Chelsea now.

I forgot about poker! It goes in between league and rugby for me though, I dont like watching as much as Yak/gummi/the other poker degens, I watch for education purposes rather than entertainment

Ignore *Reaction* ThtHF....he used to completely denounce football as a fags game until he meet his current squeeze, she likes football.....so *Reaction* suddenly had to pretend he likes it too! so what does team does he choose? Thats right....the same one all other clueless footballing bandwagon idiots choose. Manchester United. In fact...........I post de evidence of this

Oval racing is unbelievable boring to watch imo. Just because a kiwi is doing well doesn't improve the spectacle much for me.

1. Test cricket
2. Limited overs cricket
3. Warriors/Kiwis
4. All Blacks
5. NBA
6. Golf
7. Snooker and pool. These make surprisingly good TV sports.
8. Tennis. Usually only grand slams though.
9. NFL
10. Football

Motorsport, yachting, cycling, marathons and any other kind of long distance 'racing' can fuck off. Not to disrespect them as actual sports, but they're appalling to watch on TV, and in the case of cycling and marathons etc in particular, even worse live.

Any other rugby other than the All Blacks is verging on unwatchable these days. Low skill level, high error rate, slow, confusing and bumbling game it has become.

My thoughts exactly bro.

The vaguaries are just ridiculous now; penalties/free kicks at the breakdown/scrum are an absolute lottery.

Cricket best to watch!
Easily
[quote]
Test cricket is a shit spectator sport. Which is why they invented the 50-overs/limited formats.

Just sayin’.
[quote]
Agreed...I like cricket too, but tests are batshit boring

Oh, and worse than that is NFL...fucking boring tripe!
[quote]
Oddly enough, I agree.

When I discuss my favourite sports I never expect other people to like cricket, and especially not tests. I get a huge amount of pleasure from watching cricket, but I also understand why others don't like it. It's a traditional game and was made for a different time and is appreciated by few. 5 days is just too tough for some people. It's tough for some people to grasp that 5 days can result in the most gripping draw you can see in any sport. The fanfare doesn't lie... It's not like people are flocking to the long games like they are the shorter ones, but I still love it more than anything.

Cycling - races which involve big hills, ie usually any of the grand tour mountain stages

Rugby

League (I started getting back into it this year)

Triathlons - ITU draft legal, ie the type we see in Olympics
[quote]
Cricket - all forms
Football
Rugby Union
Rugby League

NFL
Skiing
Tennis
[quote]
1. Football - I watch so much of this I need to use sub categories:
1. Major international tournaments - World Cup, Euros
2. La Liga
3. Champions League
4. Arsenal and lately Liverpool games
5. The rest of the English Premiership
6. English Championship (although <3 this si much live, great atmosphere and value for money)
7. Serie A
8. A-League
9. All other football

2. Rugby - mainly internationals as feel the same way as others regarding other levels, although if Auckland are on I will watch them. English club rugby is a bit crap as well regardless of what the poms say
3. F1
4. Cricket, all forms
5. League - S of O, Warriors and Kiwis
6. Tennis Grand Slams
7. Ski Jump
8. Olympic anything, suddenly every sport becomes cool
9. Big horse racing events - Cheltenham Fest, Grand National, Royal Ascot
10. NBA
11. NFL Playoffs or 49er ganes

Have to disagree regarding pool/snooker though, we have about 5 different sports channels on different TVs at work and snooker is on a lot, and while I can recognise the skill I still find it boring and I would rate it as one of my least favourite sports to watch. Others I can't watch at all are golf, oval motorsport, and baseball.

Yet it gets the biggest crowds out of any sporting event. Go figure...

yeah how fucked is that. 400,000 people turn up regularly to the races.

millions and millions watch it live.

agreed. Oval racing in general bores me to tears.

interesting factoid - Danica Patrick sells more merchandise, than all the other IRL drivers combined.
[quote]
She's got some pretty big offers on the table from Nascar and F1 now eh?

I have to say that the 400,000 people they get attending those oval races is a little misleading. Don't forget it's usually at least a full 2 day event, and is the only place you can watch the IRL or Nascar for that week. Plus there's a huuuuuuge amount more room around those tracks than there is at any Football or Baseball field.

The total number of people watching Football or Baseball in any given week would hugely exceed the IRL or Nascar IMO.

Smile

gc.
[quote]
nascar pulls way bigger crowds than IRL.

yeah 2 day event.. but same goes with most motor racing events. INDY runs for almost over a week... races like Bathhurst run for 4-5 days..

Danica - shes a firey one. Great diver too. Dunno if she has had offers that would surpass what she has with IRL. That girl makes soooooo much money..
[quote]
oh yeah, - football (soccer) has more people watching it than anything.

funny too - The RWC is the 3rd largest sporting event in the world...

I find this hard to believe. Wasn't this just some piece of propaganda thrown out there by the IRB in an effort to sell the damn thing?
[quote]
Damien said:

That's due to potential television audience though isn't it? I recall that being stated in the past and they were basing it on how many people could watch it.

yeah, from the references have just looked up, its broadcast potential its measured on

3 billion people....I doubt half the world watched the last RWC. hell, it cost us $20USD to get the 1/4final on ppv cable in LA..

So if they talk potential audience...that would include everyone in the usa that had access to that cable provider.

altho, I know most of Fiji watched their 1/4 final. Thats got to count a long ways towards that 3 billion Wink
[quote]
I'd wager that more people worldwide watched Euro 2008 than the RWC the year before...

They get big crowds especially at NASCAR because of the you-can-drive-to-it factor for most races, as well as it's very cheap comparatively and pitched as a family day out.

As for Patrcik, she's still pretty average imo. And she has no offers from any F1 team except being mentioned as a maybe for the possibly launching USGP team next year. Even then, she's said publicly that not only has no-one from the organisation even asked her about it she still has a contract to race for a couple more years with her current team.

Other than money I struggle to see why she'd move from a winning ticket where she still has a chance of winning the odd race and rake in money to a team where she has no chance whatsoever and will likely be a back-marker on circuits style races where she's spent almost no time.

Ask Sebastien Bourdais or Scott Speed what F1 is like...
[quote]
Yeah if Danica Patrick was male she'd be just another driver that no one paid attention to (or possibly a much better driver Razz ), has she added to her single race win yet?

If she was offered an F1 drive I think she would do it though because regardless of how she did she could srtill claim to be the first woman driver.
[quote]
Jono said:

Hard to be first when five others have already done it - even as recently as 1992. Giovanna Amatti (sp?) was famously in three F1 races...

....although failed to qualify for any - the old format meant you had to be within a certain time of the pole-setter.
