I don't agree with dictionary.com there. I think "nerd" is more a derogatory term, or relating to someone who immerses themseleves totally with technology or similar "geeky" things. I agree with nemesis as far as the term "geek" goes. I think it implies that the person has more social skills.

...I would probably classify myself as a geek.
[quote]
I disagree with dictionary.com too, I think both words have more coloquial meanings to us in NZ.

nice harvey Smile . . . . I think most people on these boards are ... *waiting to be spit on*

I am geek. *snort*
[quote]
i'm bad like micheal jackson
[quote]

nerd: wants to be... but cant

geek: has natural talent...

*from the dictionary of aims*
[quote]
int the world of the internet, a geek would be a person that spends most of their time in chat rooms and forums, like most of us.

a nerd is a person with a technical understanding of computers, how they work, how they can make 'em better etc. AND\OR have a good knowledge of the internet, how it works, blah blah blah.

i used to be a king geek. then i quit irc :> now i am a minor geek (hell, i'm here aint i?) and a mega nerd (i plan on being one for a living).

well, thats for the net anyways... =)
[quote]
Hey, damn, all thse definitions are so conflicting. I always thought it was the other way around aims...!

I think it's mainly about balance eh. A geek has an interest in technical stuff/internet stuff/computer stuff (broadly) but has other aspects to their life (e.g. the dance scene, sports, other hobbies) whereas a nerd is like 100% technical stuff.

Neither of them are nec. bad if you ask me, just as long as some basic social skills are maintained.

But I'm probably at least a geek (and a nerd by Adamal's definition) so I'm biased.

*shrug* I like myself, and that's enough for me, regardless of whether I am a geek or nerd. *grin*

And you guys all seem pretty cool, so I don't care. *folds arms and looks satisfied*
