[quote]
|Switch is great tho.....especially when you have no actuall money in your account... Very Happy
[quote]
Yeah, we've got ATM's in bars and clubs too! Dangerous though.

Yeah Switch is good for the internet!!
[quote]
whats Switch? Confused
[quote]
its like an eftpos card, but you can use it like a credit card as well for buying stuff of the net and the like, sortof like an electronic cheque book really
[quote]
does it run off eftpos terminals? and does it run credit for u? or just debit your account with the versatility of a visa?

St George in Aussie gave me a Visa DEBIT card, meaning it has the widespread use u get of visa (interweb, bill paying, phone purchases) but it only runs off what you have in your savings account. Means no limit on your card usage, so it works out pretty good.

[quote]
thts prtty much it exactly graphite.....you can get those visa debit cards here as well, i is quite handy , like you said all the versatility of a credit card, without the interest..!! plus you can draw out money from your account from stores (even if theior aint no moeny there Very Happy )
[quote]
i think mine is balance dependant. but I've never pushed it to find out. yet!
[quote]
you should be cool, it doesnt actually connect to the bank straight away, the store just takes the receipt and cashes it at the bank like a cheque, the bank actually guarentees to honour it, be assured however they WILL call you up at let you know that.. Very Happy

i find the banking god over here..! i tried my card three time in arow at an an ATM the other day, and within half an ahour i had the fraud dept of my bank ringing m up to make sure it was me using it....!!!
[quote]
true. sounds safer too.

OH! thats another thing I miss - pints and half pints. rather than midis/schooners/schmidis..... maaaaaate.

Rolling Eyes
[quote]
The banking here is good in a way but totally shite in other ways, like...

-No Eftpos (you just swipe your card and sign...no pin number needed). This sucks cos just anyone can take your card and spend heaps.
-No such thing as cashing a cheque.
-Cheque take fucking forever to clear.
-When you use your card the money can take up to 2 weeks to come out of your account. So I think I have money, so spend it and then go into overdraft!! grrr.
-Shitloads of places still dont take cards....and I mean SHITLOADS.
-Its a mission to get a bank account open.
-Good customer service is almost non existent.

Am glad I grew up in NZ and will definitely move back at some stage but NZ has nothing I want or need right now. I hardly miss anything (besides friends and family of course), but I do miss a friend’s beach house near New Plymouth (right on the beach) and EFTPOS! I’m totally convinced NZ has the best inter-bank banking system and EFT systems in the world.

However, when I returned to NZ after being in the UK for 12 months I was taken by surprise with the extremely blue and clear skies, the very green hills, how all the food was so rich and full of flavor and the air… well you just couldn’t smell it!
[quote]
I miss being able to walk to the bus and the air tasting CLEAN!

(and sydney is far from the worst, or so I've been told. And thats only in the city too, I might add.)
