[WGTN] ILLUMINATE PAINT PARTY - JULY 18TH 2009 @ SHED SIX

For the first time in NZ, the hugely successful paint party concept is upon us. Bringing together some of NZ’s best DnB and Harddance acts, Illuminate is like nothing Wellington has ever seen before.

Torrents of UV glow paint across a wild crowd of white-robed revelers, Illuminate plays on the tribal instincts within all of us to come together and be part of something larger than ourselves. To paint and to be painted, to dance all night, this is your chance to become part of the phenomenon sweeping the US. With over 1,500 guests expected in attendance this will be one of the biggest indoor dance partys Wellington has seen.

I said the same thing in the other thread. Lineup looks a bit all over the place style/progression wise, but I'm guessing 99% of the punters won't be clued up enough to care.

Plus I'm getting the feeling that the focus is supposed to be on the paint...

yeh, you dont need to be "clued up" on anything for this one... its all about having fun and letting loose...

Interesting and different concept, sounds cool, however a few questions:

Do you bring a change of clothes?
How are you expected to get home after?
Wouldn't you feel yucky and wet and sticky?
What sort of paint is it??
Is it oil or water based??
Does it wash out??
It is safe on your skin??
Will it ruin my hair?
Wouldn't the floor be slippery and wet?
If someone falls and hurts themselves who's responsible?
Got insurance?
If someone gets paint in my drink, is it safe to drink? Does that person buy me a new one if not?

-dunno, how do you usually get home? sober driver? bus? momz? change of clothes (or a raincoat) for a taxi?

Wouldn't you feel yucky and wet and sticky? -dunno about you but i quite enjoy the "wet and sticky" sensation... if you reckon thats "yucky" you might want to remain about the periphery, where the paint doesnt splatter so much...

-at this stage, its waterbased face/body paint... it will most definitely be non-toxic and safe... safety first

Is it oil or water based??
-water

Does it wash out??
-i'd say with enough attention, it'd wash out - dont wear anything that you don't want "ruined" though...

-well, its face/body paint, so I'd say so...

-for some girls, a gentle breeze is enough to "ruin" hair... would that stop you from having a fun night?

Good questions Jess (for once :pinkwinky just wish you'd got a few concrete ansers on a few of them - especially the safety and insurance issue.

my thoughts on these, note i'm not involved in this gig, but applying some common sense . . . .



If you fall and hurt yourself in any other club who's responsible? Was the floor wet with drinks and not promptly cleaned up? were you being an idiot and dancing on a bar stool? etc etc.

There's host reponsibility (reasonable safe environment), there's patron responsibility (don't be a dick), and there's the knowledge of the type of gig you're going to (skydiving carries more risk than walking, but probabaly less than an AKL taxi ride . . . )



If someone accidentally spills ash in your drink is it safe to drink? Kind of. Would you? i hope not, and if you do, i'd probably use that as an intoxication / idiot test.



Depends on the person really doesn't it? If i accidentally knock over someone's drink (99% of the time having happened the other way round) i always offer to buy them a replacement, but that's because i'm polite. The average twat does not, and in this case i'd suspect no different to any other club in town, roll the dice and pray for boxcars.

I really don't see the difference btw this and any other gig, there's fun to be had, there's some risks, you weigh up the odds and decide if you want to be part of the madness.

Should also be relevant to note this is a USA fad at the moment, and being one of the most ligitious (sp?) countries on this planet i'm guessing it's a kinda low risk environment . . . . ?

just went and invested in a pair of white pants.. my first white pants ever. I'm rather chuffed.
I was going to get a pair of white speedo's to go with some white swimming googles, but i figure it'll be cold still over in NZ, so I might bring a ski mask instead.
