WGTN Bars - residents and genres covered?? I'm out of touch

Right is anyone able to give me a break down of the who plays where regularly/resident and what music policies are in place at what bars? I'm out of touch on where to go these days and what Ican expect to hear when I'm out. Also someone at work asked and I couldnt tell them the answer.

you can't go wrong checking out Ponderosa - Andy B plays solid house and electro beats there Friday and Saturday nights (I think...)
apart from that I don't go near Courtenay Place these days - Sandwhiches has regualar gigs of all genres, Garden Club is the same...look out for Studio 9 which is now back on the rotation, be sure to be some good gigs coming up in there

So Dannyboy doesn't play out this way anymore? What's the music policy at Maya and that small bar beside Jet, whatever it's called? Obviously there is no weekly HH/HT nights in Welly anymore is there?

Maya & Lotus both play commercial house & electro.
I think you are most likely these days to see Dannyboy playing at a gig at Sandwiches or headlining the house room at a Twisted.
Jet bar was playing hip hop but not to sure if that has changed.
Vespa is always good for a drink & some good house & electro.
Most bars in town either play pop/hip hop or comercial house & electro. Venues such as Sandwiches, Garden Club, Studio 9 & Curve the music all depends on the type of party booked in for that night.

My pick for a Courtenay Place Saturday night out would be to see Russell C playing at Maya 12:30-3am then head along to see Rollout at Lotus Bar.

Both hugely talented House/Electro DJ's.

I hate electro with a passion so that rules out most places then. What about Good Luck? Does Coda still play techno up there? Any after hours clubs like Sante Fe anymore?

What about Mercury? What's that like these days? They used to dothe best Metropolitans! Oh and Bubbles and Danny playing always meant a great night of awesome tunes.

Mercury is a gay club called Hooch now. Not sure what sort of music they play.

I don't really dig the electro sound either, would much rather hear deep, funky, or soulful house than electro house.

Dannyboy lives in Australia now.
All of the Courtenay Place sector play electro.
Closest to an afterhours bar would be Vespa and they play house (of many varieties)
There is no weekly hard dance event.

Vespa plays some great house music every Saturday night especially the late night set 3.30am - 7am by Paul aka Mr OZ.

Keep eyes and ears open for opening date for "Betty's" .... Ex Paradiso site... is lookin god so far. Shouldn't be too long before she opens her doors.

At first was hard to see the old space vanish but i think the transformation gonna wow you all. Upstairs and downstairs space is being utilised keeping things real interesting

Just stay away from anyting along the lines of progressive electro and you'll be onto a winner id say.

firstly, hooch isnt a club, its a bar. and a dope one at that. most of my forays into town these days involve at least a few cocktails at hooch. great staff and fantastic overhaul of the old mercs site.

good luck is still going, marek has a solid residency most weekends and they will often have fcss doing party & bullshit.

garden club on a thurs is highly recomended, great dnb & a well fun time.

not a lot avail on the regular house sound front atm, but keep it locked and loaded, im working on a little something something that should be starting in a few months.

So many of you have your head stuck up your ass, Thats all I have to say!

If you know where to look you can find all genres in welly. If there's a sound you can bet someone is reppin it somewhere.

Welly has been poppin off really with gigs of all flavours get behind it

Ps. There are heaps of places and nights to catch house music in welly

Yea I was going to say its been $50 an hour for a very long time, but i suspect that the person who mentioned $45 is talking about bars with a slightly different music policy to what we are thinking.

At this stage i don't think so.. Primarily Betty's is being set up for functions.but opporating as a bar as well. Pretty sure it's in the pipelines for it to be used as a venue also. Has been confirmed to be open before the end of the month.

Sorry didn't make it very clear.... What i mean is they know who they want. But at somestage they will probably host gig's. Does that make sense? Generally functions will end at 11 or 12 then the space will open to general public and operate as a bar.
