Sooooo... with all those cheap holiday deals and warmer weather, whats everyone got lined up for summer (and beyond) in terms of little breaks and longer holidays?
Having just had a long weekend away to Edinburgh with Greenie to see my cousins and get sidetracked from the tourist trail by our wanton behaviour, my next break is in a couple of weeks. I'm going to Stockholm for the 4 days over the weekend closest to the longest day of the year (or mid-summer). Apparently its a pretty big deal in sweden, the sun hardly goes down at all, the all get nutted on Schnapps and run around Maypoles, etc. Sounds like fun! There's about 7 of us going, including Kev (for those of you that know him) and mainly others unknown to biggie.
After that, I am considering a eurostar break to Paris (just for a weekend) in July, and in August I plan on going back to Edinburgh again for The Edinburgh Festival. After that, a bunch of people I was travelling with in Laos might be having a reunion in Bilboa (Basque Country, in Spain) later in August but am not sure if this reunion will actually happen or not.
Gotta think of somewhere to go in September as well, but I did talk about Granada with a friend recently, although BeerFest in germany is in september also...
I've also escaped England completely for a few months for the last two winters, but this coming winter I'm mostly staying here but I do want a 2/3 week winter escape somewhere. I'm considering going to Brazil, for CARNAVAL!!!!! The 5-day festival starts on Febrary 5th next year. I really like this description of Carnaval on the Lonelyplanet.com website:
"The streets of Rio go tchica-tchica-bum! when Carnaval comes to town for five heady days that begin at midnight on the Friday before Ash Wednesday. Every year, wealthy and spaced-out foreigners descend on Rio en masse to get drunk, get high, bag some sun and exchange exotic diseases. Dancing, parades, head-dresses and bare breasts are all part of the spectacle."
You can't really miss something like that, can you?
