was going to set up my own website and was looking at virtual hosting, was wondering though how much traffic would a site such as biggie go through in a month??? like 20GB? or am i being conservative with that figure?
[quote]
Multiply that figure by at least 15.

and send an email to trance_rahosting@element78.co.nz Wink

Unless you know a huge group of people you're not going to get anywhere near the traffic level of biggie for a while. Remember they have lots of pics and thousands of users. My site is similar but new and much much smaller, and I go through about 2GB of traffic per month, and not all of it's the forums. phpBB can compress the pages it sends too, which reduces your bandwidth requirements, but might cause problems at high load.

I can offer you a virtual system running on a BSD system either in new zealand or in the states at very affordable prices Smile

-100MB ACCOUNT ::. NZ$22.00 (US$9.00)

All hosting plans come with the following as standard,
all you do is choose the amount of disk space you need:
-20Gb data transfer

I meant there are cheaper places around.

Sorry... but who wants "cheap" hosting!!??

We're cheap but you'll be on crap hardware and your bandwidth is throttled through the eye of a needle and in America (= 200ms+ latency)

if you're hosting files then maybe... but i'd never put any decent website on that platform

which is why I built my own.

If you cant afford $8us a month, how do you afford to be on the internet? :p

Hrm... the above makes me seem like _IM_ cheap, which im not. I wouldnt want to be in area of hosting.

heh thanks guys,
i wasnt intending to use as much bandwith as this site, i mean yea with the ammount of users this has it would definately go through a lot of bandwith. I was just using it as a sort of comparison Smile
