web help (search engines)

Have just finished a site and need it to pick up on search engines, have put meta tags and keywords, but is that it or do I need to actually submit it to the search engines?? lost?

You have to submit it. Just go to the major search engines and use their submit function. If you can't find it, google will find it for you.

btw, I think google ignores keywords and meta tags, and goes on the text of your page. Since 80% of the search market is google, you're best off optimising for it. There are websites about it - use google to find them.

it can pay to have a good meta description tag: a full sentence describing your site, trying to include words that people will search for.

I don't think any (popular) search engines take notice of the keyword tags anymore, for obvious reasons.

with the way search engines work these days, your best bet is to get other sites (especially established ones) to link to you... when they get crawled, you page will not only get indexed, but it'll receive a higher ranking.
