That the house regulars are on a strike......but I think this probaly goes for almost all of biggie. The only thing breaking the silence here is the occasional spammer. This is bad, real bad. Are there any gigs coming up that people are semi-excited about? Any new releases?

I'm particularly feeling this:

Pete Gooding & Chris Coco - Nightdance

Nothing terribly original but still catchy. B2 is cool.

I virtually never buy tunes anymore, podcasts, easy to grab mixes and the like have all but killed my passion for finding that killer tune...

did purchase This Ain't Chicago - Ride The Rhythm (Derrick Carter remix) cause he tweeted a link to it on itunes - a remake of an old chitown track (1988 the origianl was released)... big acid house workout

forums it seems died last year

To be honest I'm very much the same. My music purchasing has gone down in a big way. Not sure if that means I'm getting more discerning, or if the music's getting shitier......but yeah, mixes are definitely the way to go but a good mix is so hard to find - and it's not good enough to just go by the dj anymore, it's really hit n miss.

Donwloaded Digweed's essential mix the other day expecting something amazing......was not even remotely impressed. Confused

Yeah, I still buy quite a bit of music and get plenty of promos - but I'm still only finding 3 or 4 keepers a week - not much different to any other time really... but the volume which you have to listen to to find them is large as there is so much utter crap being released. Still, am really enjoying a lot of synthy techno these days and also a lot of Dimitri From Paris/Ray Mang/At Jazz type jams.

Also - agree on the JD Essential mix...

digweed has been boring for aaaagggeeessss..

im definitely tapping a lot of podcasts from a few trusted sites. i get a fair amount of hot new mixes from my boy, he knows my tastes extremely well so it alleviates the need for me to hunt things down. i am digging this. Smile

i havent bought any new tunes in a few weeks, but only because i have been taking a bit of a musical break and havent been playing any gigs. this changes as of next weekend, so back to beatport et al i go. tbh, i have a fuck tonne of tunes sitting in my holdcrate and a pile more i cant seem to find anywhere. there are massive amounts of fantastic beats out there! last time i bought new tunes i had to cull 35 out of my order. i wanted most of them too. i need a job.. and a whiskey..

Still looking for a copy for Cevin Fishers "The Freaks Come Out" (Sharp Boys mix)
and yep Rob I still want those tunes if they are still there. (Ive been spending my money on stupid things lately)

To be really honest, I havent searched for anything since the last time I typed "deep house" in to Kickass torrents, and
was presented with some stupid mos glowstick nation pile of arse.
Best thing Ive heard in ages was Robs last mix he posted and some of the more housey Bromide Dub stuff.

Id love to get my hands on more, any linky dinks would be cool....Smile

Still buying heaps of tunes. Having to buy the slower tempo house/disco jams to play small bars (only regular paid gigs I can find - hopefully this changes soon...). Tunes that stand up on their own in such an environment without being in the mix for long - I find it difficult mixing in the cans without decent monitors!

Digging back into some loopy techno from yester-year like this:
http://www.discogs.com/Deetron-The-Floor-Jackin-Theory-EP/release/471841

...and most enjoying things like these from the current crop:
http://www.discogs.com/Sven-Tasnadi-Juno6-Jam-Sessions/release/2233368
http://www.discogs.com/Steve-Lawler-Almerina/release/2187849

Can't remember the last time I saw a decent dj set - apparently Harri from Sub Club in Scotland was wicked last weekend. Derrick May was Derrick May last month which is always sensual but I feel like I need something more! Anyone go to DEMF?

Hope y'all going swimmingly Smile

I went to Nice n Urlich last Friday night and Bevan showed once again that in my opinion he's the best house dj in the country, Legendary!

as for new music, has anybody checked this? https://www.beatport.com/en-US/html/content/release/detail/250558/Freiland Klaviermusik

have kompakt completely lost the plot..?
[quote]
Well, we could say that Kompakt lost the plot after they abandoned their Profan-stlyed aesthetic for a less experimental 'commercial' sound... they are going back the other way now with more avant-garde approach... considering how popular the more experimental stuff is in Europe now, it's not surprising.

Saying that, this is by far the worst example of this polka-techno sound. Almost any other of their collective's release would be better.

Still. Plenty more awesome music out there.

In fact, this is the most exciting time for forward thinking music in over a decade.
[quote]
point taken and agreed re kompakt. experimental is all good, and anything that pushes the envelope has to be a good thing. music cant move forward without this. but some of that album is just plain bad. i quite like music that slides in and out of key, but this is just ridiculous. funny thats its all piano 'sound' though, given my current infatuation with key based riffs.

as i said earlier in the thread (and am hereby agreeing with mr drakes comment above), there is SO much good new music out there atm. its just a pity there is nowhere in wellington to actually play any of it. you aucklanders should think yourselves lucky, if we want four four down here we must put up with gash rave "crack" house that is basically just recycled and slowed down happy hard core. theres nothing inventive, interesting or classy about the capital cities scene.

now i do believe THAT is something to whine about!

can't get beatport at work but why does juno say this was released in august 08? In any case, I just got Speicher 66 the other day, nothing ground-breaking but nice melodies on both sides. Other than that, haven't bought any of their stuff for a long time now.

Just discovered Koze's got his own lable tho!!

http://www.juno.co.uk/labels/Pampa+Germany/

The first release sounds like SIS - Trompeta with ADHD.
