The TAB is fucking theft, bookmakers are a thing of the past and betting exchanges are the only way to go now. Why settle for shitty odds set by a bookmaker trying to cover his loss?

Is NZ still caught in the ridiculous TAB monopoly?

No different to any other betting agency. You just gotta be smart with your bets. Like me putting money on the Kiwis to win the World Cup when they were paying $6.20.

Putting money on a team to win at $1.60 is a bit... weird.

Yup. I thought it was a terrible bet as soon as I saw it, just never got round to posting as much. With all the Warriors injuries and Souths on form etc 1.60 was way too skinny. $1.90 looked about right

Warriors injured and Souths inform does not say a lot for the South side boys. We should have won that game ... we were the better team but our lack of vision on attack bit us in the ass!

I reckon.. that's a terrible bet.

Rabbitohs as "underdogs" would've been paying close to $4 to win by 1-12, that would've been the obvious bet to make..

Why? Confused If it's All Blacks versus the national rugby team of Iceland then $1.60 is going to be a fucking goldmine, right? It's just as weird as any other amount given certain circumstances?

Scepties Razz

That would have been about right, anything from 3.80-5.00 prob

/goes to check

and anyway yeah...its not that fact you have getting less than double your money, its the fact that Warriors were dubious favourites...and certainly not $1.60 favs

Bottom of my range Razz $3.80

Yeah but that's this specific case. I dunno why dalai is implying that $1.60 is 'weird' in general.

And wow okay, I stand corrected. That seems a pretty good bet.

I think dalai thinks its weird cos he's a "bet small- score big" type punter...and so nothing with a return of less than like 5-1 interests him at all

Typo. Meant to be "the" team, as in the Warriors.

Not at all, with abetting exchange you offer your own odds and see if anyone is willing to take (or lay) that bet. Conversely you can do the opposite and lay a team at low odds and see if someone is willing to back them at that price. The volume of punters mean unless you're trying for unrealistic odds your bet will usually get matched. You'll generally get up to 20% better odds than at a bookies because exchanges don't have a bookmakers concerned about paying out too much.

Very Happy

Yep, remember that's a winner by margin bet though.. the OP was looking at head-to-head

As Maestro said the Warriors were very dubious favourites, and it's not worth chucking $100 on a coin-toss when you're only looking at a $60 return! You'd get better odd on a.. coin-toss.

You can't forget also that the odds are a reflection of where the money has been placed. A big bet placed on one team causes the odds to blow out on the other so don't always relate back to the merits of the matchup . The bookie is targetting say 10% profit on every bet and manages the odds accordingly.
