Hey,
Just brought myself a couple of decks but would love to know all the top spots to buy cheap vinyl to get me started. I kinda like funky house, a bit of breaks and mainstream dance aswell.

Also absolutly love NZ dub, esp Black Seeds, Salmonella dub etc - Don't suppose you can get any of this stuff on Vinyl?

Thanks for the help.

No worries Stu,

Brett, you will be amazed with what you can find at HMV (Oxford Circus) and Virgin Megastore (Tottenham Court Road).
Regular 3 for £10.00 deals are always on the offer.
Huge vinyl selections for Breaks, House, Hard Dance and others.... Check it out mate.
Though remember to take your own needles to Virgin with you.

Sup Stu,

that's what I woulda said. You could also order one of those packs from htfr.com but I doubt there are that many diamonds in the rough you'd be sent. Maybe someone else has ever got one of thier starter packs and could shed light?

I've pointed Brett towards Berwick Street, Poland Street, and Wardorf street for shops as well, there's quite a good store in Poland Street just down from Yo Sushi from what I remember, Phonica Records, it's a pretty cool shop. Black Market records as well is pretty cool.

There are some places in Camden as well, but I can't remember the names of the stores out that way.

Also online chemical, juno.

apart from the odd purchase, i've hardly bought anything at record shops over here... online is so much easier, cheaper and quicker

Laughing ^^says you cos you just bought some 200's recently! You used to buy tons of vinyl when we were there!

But seriously, try the record store in nottinghill gate just down the road from the tube station, I think its called the nottinghill music exchange from memory? Heaps of bargains to be found in there (no listening posts though) I picked up heaps of good stuff there.

Try knowhow records in camden, they have heaps of bargain vinyls and recent release's plus good decks and friendly service Music

Im about to buy a cdj1000 myself, like mutant said, its the way forwards really. Not many Dj's is using vinyl much these days, if at all at partys/clubs. I do like playing vinyl though its just not very versitle.

Yep, definitely recommend this store. Great service and great tunes for the more techy-breaky edge. Also Vinyl Addiction just around the corner. It used to be owned by Finger Lickin and was expensive and wank, but I think Ray has bought it out from under them and it's now an independent.

Hah, it's easy buying mp3s in the UK, cos it's cheap to buy CDJs, but over here, it's still a rip off to buy a cdj, so vinyl it is still for me.

Heaps of advise Brett from peeps in the know, start taking note mate.

Yo Stu,

your contacts are wide spread mate. thanks to all for the advice. I now have a huge list of places to visit in the coming months of grey overcast days and long dark nights. This should keep me busy for quite some time. Should have thought to head to Camden anyway - you can find anything up there.

Take it easy all,
Brett

Haha, you'll have a new habit in no time mate! Don't spend too much otherwise they'll be nothing left for your NZ stag party and the wedding, you'll have have a small reception with a couple of dozen Speights instead.

See you in Feb bro.
