I posted this in the techno forum, though it's fair to say this night and international artist is really house music based. Certainly hope whoever is into house music, can definitely make this event Smile

For those that don't know Vincenzo, I'll be pretty surprised if you haven't seen his name on a Box CD, or raved on by likes of Bev Keys, Simon Flower, Roger Perry etc.

Vincenzo, from Hamburg & Berlin, Germany, is a fascinating, elite, and respected artist. His popularity is world-wide known, be it under his 2 albums, productions, remixes, or aliases under Phantom Image or Derrick White. Work on Poker Flat, Liebe Detail, Dessous, Moon Harbour, Freerange, and so forth accompany this amazing producer's career which spans over a decade. Musically and in terms of DJ sets, he is renowned for bringing a soulful touch to his techno. Vincenzo also impressed the underground with his forward moving ideas on deep house. Vincenzo has played a key role in modern house and techno music, which has seen him and Steve Bug explode in similar acclaim.

He holds such an understanding and flair which, despite his humble approach, has seen him appreciated amongst the right DJs, clubs, labels, and music lovers. So... Very much looking forward to Vincenzo in NZ!

Interview with Vincenzo

http://www.biggie.co.nz/editorial/articles/lead_up_to.html

OR

Being originally from Hamburg but now residing in Berlin, how would you say the electronic music scenes of the two cities differ and is your new home having a strong influence on your sound?

The musical output so as the music scene is much bigger in berlin. At the moment the club scene is hamburg is very small. Only a few good new fresh joints. I feel more inspired living in berlin.

Both the music you make and your DJ sets take in quite a range of sounds, from deep Disco to Techno, is that because you get bored easily or just love to keep people guessing, and are the people who inspire you similarly eclectic?

I get bored very fast of everything.. that's why I always take a big repertoire of music with me. I barely listen to electronic music when I am home.. I don’t even have it on my ipod. I get my inspiration from some totally different music. My favourite band is The Sea & Cake..they give me loads of inspiration.

Its been over 10 years since your debut album came out, and while you’ve released numerous tracks on different labels since then, how would you say having a home label like Dessous that continues to trust the music you make has helped you get to where you are now?

I am very thankful for that. They have done so much for me but I also for them. It's like a big family. We know each other for so many years and we can trust each other.. that is very important.. especially in this fu’** up music bizzness!

Your good friend and head of Pokerflat/Dessous, Steve Bug, has recently released an album titled ‘Collaboratory’ where he has worked with lots of other artists – do you prefer to collaborate or work alone, or a mix of both?

It depends.. I love to work with alexi delano for example.. same thing...we have been working in the studio since ages and we know each other. Besides that I prefer to work alone.

Deep House seems to be having something of a resurgence, who are your favourite producers in that genre at the moment and why do you suppose clubbers are getting turned on again by less minimal flavours?

There are a lot of great producers these days. Jimpster for example. He is a genius and I was very honored to release a record on his imprint “freerange”. Milton Jackson, Gorge, Lovebirds and Madnus & Scogil, which are releasing a record on my imprint “teardrop” later this summer.

What parties have you played recently that have blown your mind and why?

Just played the closing set at the “elektronische wiesen” festival in Essen in front of 5.000 people. Erlend oye from kings of convenience came up at the end of my set and did some freestyle performance on top of my records. People went nuts.

Is there a club that you have visited but not played that you’d love to?

I've always wanted to play at “yellow” in Tokyo..been there twice as a guest but never played! The soundsystem and the vibe is wicked. Now it's closed! Bummer!

Are you tempted to introduce a live element to your gigs as many DJs are now doing?

I do play livesets since a couple of months again. The idea came up when we were on our 10 years pokerflat anniversary tour. A lot of clubs requested me playing live. My last live act is about 4 years ago when I played the closing at dc10. I haven’t played ever since but its fun. But it will be only “live” or “dj”... no fusion.

What are you working on production and remix wise at the moment, and is there a new Vincenzo album on the horizon?

Working on a couple of remixes at the moment for Rodriquez jr. From the youngsters, the new dirt crew on mood music and besides I am finishing my new single on Teardrop. I have started working on my new album earlier this year but I will not come out for before 2010.

What is in your current top 5?

1. Jimpster - Sleeper ...released on Freerange
2. Madnus & Scogil – Baton royal ...released on Teardrop Music
3. Vincenzo – Return of Sha ...released on Ladies & Gentlemen
4. Andre Lodemann - Where Are You Now ...released on Best Worx
5. Theodore Zox – Fading (Phantom Image Remix) ...released on Ransom Note
