Who has one and rates it??

I can get this for $99+

Thats the one i have and i rate it above the lifeview ones (which suck - ive also tried the usb2 models and the pci is easier). The software for it is a better than lifeview but still a bit annoying and i had to install from internet downloads (drivers and software seperately) insead of the cd which made my comp crash on startup (problem with directx 9).

The built-in hardware MPEG encoder allows you to continue to use your computer while recording.

hi people, sorry please excuse my ignorance but. Would a video capture card enable me to copy segments of a DVD to store in mpeg format ?

You would be better off ripping the video directly off the DVD through a DVD drive rather than going through a video capture card.

as harvey said but with video capture you can do exactly that - capture any video source either composite or if the card supports it s-video (which you can convert with an adaptor to composite anyway)

svideo froma dvd player would give you a fairly good image but direct dvd drive to mpeg/divx will always be best as it is in digital format beginning to end (svideo and comp are anologue so you have to convert to and from)

I need to rip my brother's wedding vid to digital to edit it... I reckon that leadtek one is sweet

have you got it on a dv cam? if its sony just use a firewire cable.
[quote]
Nah its JVC, it has USB and firewire but it seems only for the SD card (for stills), not video.

firewire all the way..

why convert to analogue then back to digital?

if your camera dosnt have firewire out just borrow one that does and grab all the footage - when finshed export again back to tape via firewire
