urgent youtube help please!!!!

I desperately need to access my youtube acc, but since the google buying youtube thing, it wont let me use my old password.
It's prompting me to reset it by entering my google account details, if I do this will it reset my gmail/google password and lock me out of my gmail??

But wont they email me with my new password, (being a crazy ff7749djf type reset) if I cant log in to gmail to view it, and I cant remember supplying any alternative email to check there. Am I making sense?
