I know what you mean - but Urban has usually been pretty strict with the stndard of who's allowed in... and SubUrban will up this further.

The emphasis on the gig is a good standard of dress, and a quality crowd who are there for the music - and not to rock up in singlets fifteen sizes too big armed with a very thick marker pen.

Anyone we deem to look suspicious in any way WON'T be allowed in (and we have the right to refuse entry to anyone we feel, in the interests of EPL and of Studio). The code is dress-to-impress, so said wearers of oversized attire will most likely also be refused in. We're focusing on a classy crowd (ie like RnB Superclub have shown), not the down and outs who like to mutter incomprehensible insults and gesticulate like a baboon. They won't be coming in.

Likewise, it's not always the homie-types who cause problems, so don't think we'll be pointing the finger solely at them. Anyone who we see is in anyway inebriated on alcohol, drugs (and that goes for BZP, because it's a restricted substance) will also be refused entry until they are fit to do so (and if that means all night, so be it).

Note as well that the Urban room and the Spectrum room are completely separate from each other. That is. two different floors.

We know there we going to a few concerns from people about this - but believe us, we've thought it all out.

Any concerns, feel free to email us at info(at)epl.org.nz.

Cheers.

As Delegate has mentioned, I'm sure EPL are going to all measures to ensure that the people you're worried about wrecking your night are kept to a minimum.

Afterall, they don't want everyone walking away unsatisified, and it could be viewed as a chance to get any friends of yours who are into rnb/hiphop into dance music, when they normally wouldn't come out.

Years ago I worked with Raven Promotions to put on the first dual-genre underage event, and it was at the Ministry. In the "Red" room aka (Trance/Funky House/Hardhouse) room - we had DJ's like Haze, Kam, Peroxide, Jynx and in the "Blue" room we had hip hop dj's like Mase and Reminise.

You know, at first we thought it worked well - a LOT of people turned up, and the venue was basically a front-door, with a flight of stairs, when you reached the top of the stairs you'd go left for the "Blue" room (aka Hip Hop) and right for the "Red" room (aka Trance/Hardhouse) so the people divided themselves as they came up the stairs.

The unfortunate bi-product of this event, was the close proximity of rooms and limited separation - so you would always get the 'hip hop chicks' and 'gangsters' coming into the 'Red' room laughing at the ravers and creating an unfortunate atmosphere.

What those days were lacking was good security, and good seperation.

Hopefully this will be strongly enforced by EPL and Studio as mentioned above, because if done right could work to the scene's favour.. Giving dance music more exposure, and giving underage clubbers more variety.

this sounds very reasuring. I hope it will be strictly carried out! i.e the whole dress code thing... the amount of times ive been to an event that says strict dress code and seen crap that shoulda been bounced outa there is kinda uncountable...
Still EPL may be the ones to impress with this sense...

Well the people who run EPL were around when Reflex was running, and although my memory is somewhat grainy - I'm pretty sure EACH one of them had played or been to the events - and are very aware of what must be done to keep the balance.

Give them a chance, see what happens.

Besides.. you might end up schooling a few of rnb cats yourself Wink

ssshhh ANTI-G Militia is meant to be kept on the d-low....

hehe

Altho i come from a strong Anti-G militant crew background i belive this fusion culd be good.
Exposing the music we love to others could turn out positive, hey they might enjoy it, and we always want our gigs 2 get bigger.
I have friends who would only come to an Urban event (due to taste in music) and id like them 2 hear the stuff im into- the way it shuld b played, loud in a club.

Epl seem to have thought of everything, and from what ive heard theyr guna enforce it too, big ups!

And at the end of the day who cares if some g is staring you out from the edge of the dancefloor, chances are hez jst too pussy to give it a crack.
Lets give the g's a chance, we can always bust out our Anti-g milita steez on them later.

This is the exact behaviour that EPL are trying to DISCOURAGE.

A person shouldn't be discriminated against just for how they act or who they are. As a Raver, I'm pen to how others want to express themselves & I encourage it, diversity is a great thing! To persecute, put down or attack someone based on who they are, makes you no better than the KKK, Nazi party or, in more recent years, the Taleban.

GROW UP, leave your "Anti G" teeshirts at home. Let's just have a good party, K?

Oh, just to clarify,
Whilst I'm playing at SubUrban, I'm not part of EPL. So, these posts are my own thoughts & opinions, not theirs!

Guys, remember, the Rave scene was built on accepting other people's differences & coming together under one roof to listen to great choons, dance hard & to HAVE FUN. Fighting/Hostility have never had a place in clubs & I for one hope they never will. If you start something, I'm sure the bouncers will be happy to finish it! Fishy
[quote]
there wont be any hostility if they stay the fuck in their area or if they come to ours with a passive attitude. As far as i can tell if any fuking (insert crew name here)-What!? yelling G's start fuking wit me or any randoms just minding their own business. i will be likely to retaliate and yes i admit most probably to my own expense of a good nite Mad
hopefully all goes well and it dont come to that!
