Looking forward to:

- Austin Powers 4. One of the few comedy trilogies that was actually hilarious the whole way through. Thankfully the plot lends itself quite well to sequels (a spy/agent can always have another case come up) so I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.
- Die Hard 5. Should be good.. The thing I like about Die Hard is it doesn't try too hard. Funny one liners, awesome action sequences, and somehow manages to come off as somewhat realistic imo.
- Dark Knight Rises, obvious reasons.
- Beverly Hills Cop IV. Could go horribly wrong, but will still be cool to see Murphy in his best role ever again Very Happy
- Super Troopers 2.
- MacGyver. FUCK yes Very Happy Almost assuredly going to be awesome. When the TV show was so awesomely cheesy they really can't go wrong imo.

And the "really not looking forward to"s. Pretty much the same objection for all these.. Just don't think the plots lend themselves well to sequels:

- Zoolander 2 (just cannot possibly be funnier than the first, so always going to be a let down)
- Hangover 3. Can't imagine what they're going to do here. They can't just keep having huge bachelor nights every time? :/
- Total Recall. A sequel starring Colin Farrell. Oh god.
- Bad Santa 2. Enjoyed the first one immensely, but the story was finished imo.
- Falling Down 2
- Kill Bill 3

Haha well obviously the action sequences themselves aren't; but I'm talking relative to the genre as an average Razz The plot/characters of the Die Hards are substantially more engaging to me, they ring more true than others (like compared with the Transporter series for example).

Only really looking forward to the new batman.

Dunno about that, didn't think much of the a-team and miami vice remakes which reworked a similar era/genre.

Leonardo Dicaprio's live action version of Akira is apparently still going ahead, very sceptical about that one.. I loved the original akira.

A-Team was awesome, it's just that everyone totally forgot that the original show was cheesy as fuck too.

I don't think any of these will ever be made. It's either too hard to get a script that everyone agrees upon, costs too much money to secure the star and make the movie, or as in the case of Beverly Hills Cop, no studio will put down the money required for that now that no one will go to see Eddie Murphy in anything. Of course the star and the last director will always say they're working on these sequels, but these are too far gone from the originals for anything other than a re-boot (not a sequel), but they're not going to make it into production.

I'm actually cautiously optimistic about the Total Recall re-boot. While the version with Arnold was huge, I'm very open to another adaptation of the source material. I mean, the original Total Recall was going to be directed by David Cronenberg and star William Hurt, and that would have been every bit as awesome as the version with Arnold directed by Paul Verhoven.

Ya I thought it was great! Also MacGyver isn't really the same genre as A-Team / Miami Vice. They've got so much more action which brings with it a lot more difficulties with translating it to movie length imo. You've then got to write a script which justifies lots of explosions and chase scenes, and somehow have enough dialogue to make the characters relatable etc. But with MacGyver, it's basically a one-man show, and with his tools being ingenuity, resourcefulness, scientific knowledge etc (instead of masses of weaponry) there's far less room for error imo Smile

What? A Team was the best remake in history!

Haven't seen Miami Vice so can't comment.

Aren't you worried the translation from MacGuyer to Movie MacGuyver will involve an order of magnitude increase in explosions and action scenes?

Not really - there's already two feature-length MacGyver films, and I loved both of those, and they didn't go nuts for action scenes Smile

Yeah it was totally just sweetness and light wasn't it. :-/

Batman is the ONLY thing I am looking forward to on that list. Most sequels follow the law of diminishing returns unfortunately.
