Anyone know of any Techno oriented gigs on the horizon?

The next hardsoul must be damned close?

At FU we have coming up over the next couple of weeks in the techno flavour:

Mr C on 29th November (Techy house)

SNAFU on 30th November with Chaye D, Silverbeat and Ben Similar (Deep/Hard/Dubby Techno/House)

SNAFU on 6th December with Chaye D, Simon Flower and Ben Similar (Deep/Hard/Dubby Techno/House)

...and there is always Slip Stream and Inner Sound Show, on Monday and Tuesday nites on George....stay home gigs.

Whens someone going to start bringing big international Techno djs back NZ (no offense to locals, they are all good). Remember the likes of Claude Young at Superfly... Guess its all money these days.... You see sooooo many DJ's coming through Melbourne and Sydney, just that one extra flight....

Derrick May performs at the first of three Mixed Emotions nights @ Bed - Dec 13/ Dec 24/ dec 31.
There will be techno representative on each of these gigs.
I am negotiating to have Octave One do two dates early next year.
The "T" word is getting long in the tooth now.
Electronic or Hi Tech Soul seems to cover it better.(and don't forget Kraftwerk @ BDO.)
You can be sure that its a financial stretch, so
all support is appreciated.

ps People will start bringing more big techno djs over when there is more of a local market for it, and not before. I see vague glimmers of hope on the horizon for this and am cautiously optimistic about how this summer will pan out musically in terms of more people seeking out quality underground music of all flavours.

I guess a lot will depend on how both Mr C and Derrick May do......

Therefore my recommendation is to get off your bony arses and get down to both of these. If they're a success then our friendly local promoter types might just start thinking there's some potential in bringing over international techno fullas.

And if that happens I may get the chance to see Stacey Pullen and Carl Craig again

i wouldnt change the techno form to Hi tech Soul just yet though!

One extra flight doesen't even come close to covering it sometimes... mills may be able to draw 7000 people in melbourne, whereas we might get 300? As the guys at Hardware say 'mills will be loosing money doing this gig'... the odds are agains us, so we better all try and do our best and support tech based music in NZ!

Well friday at FU Bar went off...good techno all night (if i dont say so myself) to a good crowd...I heard from a few people that Recloose was brilliant. So not a bad weekend then!

if you honestly read that blurb without holding back a giggle you are in a bigger state of dinial then you are asking me to be in.
i cant just pretend i didnt read it and nor would i want to because it brightened up an otherwise dull day with a bloody good laugh.
i find it just incredible that you are on the defensive.
seriuosly tho, ive never seen it but do ppl at big raves actualy hold up 'tune' signs when their fav rave bomb is dropped? the picture i have in my mind of such a scene just cheers me up no end. dont ask us to forget the flyer - that shit is gold man!

anyway there is a big market out there for that (harddance)and to have free entry these days is almost unheard off.

Hey Sander, I admit I did go slightly on the defensive for a moment to which I apoligise.

Admitidly the flyer may give you a giggle, those words were put up reflecting the dance scene over the past few years since 1997 and some of those reference relate to trance and hardcore, basically I was saying whatever your preference come along and lets just have a big party!

I've been doing these N2O events on a free entry policy since the beginning, I have no sponsorship and our DJs are just doing these off their own back, I've heard a lot of people complain about the lack of diversity in events and with this one I was trying to re-introduce that and have a room which incorperated a larger range of styles.

I now have Chelfyn helping us out playing and he can quite freely play to more of the style he did in the UK at Ripsnort or Fish and something you don't hear much when you go clubbing especially over here. I'm also keen on exploring other area's of techno (I recently heard a set by Tom Project and am keen to get him to play in the future)

I guess the thing is, I'm trying to be different and break down these boundries and its hard when you keep getting people mouthing and trying to catagorise you to one area.

I do these events free at a loss because I'd rather put something into the scene and for people to enjoy themselves... I guess its hard when you try so hard to do something right..

Anyway, comments accepted, just thought I'd explain myself so at least I felt better about the situation.

im glad you didnt take my words as a personal attack and saw them for what they were, a bit of fun..
im serious tho about never having come across the type of scene described on your flyer, sounds worlds apart from what i am into but as i said there is a big rave market out there and noticed that you had quite a positive responce from your harddance forum post.
genres and party style aside if you are offering it for free and your djs are doing it also for free then im sure it will go well. its always hard getting a gig past its teething stage. you just have to persist untill it catches on, word of mouth is best but slow. i dont even want to count the amount of techno events that have curled up and died at the first hurdle...
i personaly feel that events are best marketed first as being something fun (pref something that apeals to woman, the men will follow) and then later maybe focused more on a genre....

i had heard rumours of a possible Octave One showing around the beginning of this year, but alas nothing to back that up since.
michael geddes (textures, i love techno, hardsoul)is playing at fu this weekend and the following. anyone familiar with his style of techno knows he is not one to miss. he gets little exposure these days but is well worth checking out..

As I said earlier the rumours about a party this Friday 14th Feb are getting a little stronger.... Will post more as soon as I hear =)
