The décor was understated but interesting, with 7 (I think) large, psychedelically painted balloons "aligned" above the dancefloor, representing the aligned planets. Some exploded later on releasing confetti onto the crowd, and there were the usual indoor fireworks and glitter drops that make the Fridge that little bit special. Two large projection screens were installed at the back of the stage displaying trippy visuals of strange monsters and the like! Quality stuff, not something you usually get at this venue. The decks were on the stage instead of in the DJ box, which allowed more attention to be focused on the DJs. In a way this is good, but at the same time I don't think it allows you to become as immersed in the music as when you aren't looking at them. A refreshing change though.

Now for the moment I'd been waiting for. One half of German boshmeisters Uberdruck stepped up to the decks. As soon as the first pounding kick drum came in, the crowd whooped in delight. This was one of the best sets I have ever seen; it was so good for dancing too. Every tune had a filthy, dark bassline, heavy kickdrums, and a gargantuan build-up. He played the Uberdruck remix of "Hallucinogen Generation" by Fallout Boy, as well as their own tunes such as the dirty-as-fuck "Now or Never" and the fantastically named "Cunt Master". He even played the awesome "Drugface" when I asked him too. Pure pumping madness. The promoters agreed that they have never seen a DJ make the crowd go so completely mental. Do not miss an opportunity to see this guy; he was even better than I had expected. Wow

This night is gonna be wicked, and well worth the trip up to smelly old Auckland. Very Happy Very Happy

I still have a few earlybird tickets left at $29.
