Rolling Eyes
turning 25
another year's no claims discount (4 total I think)
a year's depreciation on the car

and my premium goes up Mad

Not too happy with NAC overall. Their service is slow and their staff, quite frankly, are stupid.

Time to start shopping around again!

Just shop around, its pretty typical IMO, get a competing quote and they will probably drop their pants to keep you

Why not?

I insured my Lotus Elise with them when I was 25... had to actually talk to the branch manager though... they wouldn't do it over the phone. Make an appointment to see a branch manager and plead your case... I'm paying cheaper excess and premiums on my Elise, insured for about $50k than my mate is on his 14k Subaru.

age, type of car, their prejudice against young people.

i'm guessing refusal based on age contravenes the human rights act in this case as other insurers obviously allow it and I'm sure they'll have other cars like mine on their books for older people but I'm also quite sure nothing can be done about it.

Listen to what I said above dude, I've got a $50+k sports car insured with them... I rang them up and they said "ermmm.... no, we wouldn't insuire you with that type of car"

So basically, I went along to my branch and spoke to the manager... I said to them "look, I've had cars with you before of various types, I've never made a claim, I'm a responsible person, in a professional job, the car's stored under lock, key, bolt, chain, camera and big ugly Samoan security guard and this thing is my bloody pride and joy... I'm hardly going to be streetracing it now am I?" So basically in the end they took my persona into account and gave me a pretty competetive package.... I've got a full, comprehensive cover with additional glass and breakdown retreival and it's costing me about 900 per year, with agreed value of about $52k

Insurance is one of the allowed exceptions under the HR act as regards age.
They may have similar cars on their books but those will be taken as commercial decisions on the facts of the individual case; in other words you COULD try negotiating with them to take you on but as you probably don't have much $ value with them otherwise the risk remains too high.

If you were a Remmers boy and dad had the BMW and the Benz and the Porsche all with AMI they'd insure you no problem... which sucks but you can understand why it works for them in that situation.

There is your key word.

Insurance companies take a lot of notice of the make of care as opposed to the model.

Toyota's are as a general rule not as desirable as say a Subaru, Mitsubishi, and a BMW; in an insurance companies eyes (natually these are some are some of the most stolen cars - part of how the companies come up with your rate).

Man I feel ya, I tried so many places before I finally got insurance for my bat, got declined by AMI, Tower, State, Axiom, ASB Insurance, AA Insurance and a handful of others before NAC finally quoted me. Strange thing is I got accepted straight away for my r34 when i was 20 Rolling Eyes

I've never had a problem with them, my NAC premiuim is lower than my last company (State) and AA before that.
They just paid out on a claim about 2weeks ago that was all completed in a week. Good service I thought.
Excess was only $650.

Getting good insurance really depends on a lot of things, what I would advise is that you just get a bunch of quotes and see which one is the cheapest. I know that can take a long time – if I were you I’d only go with the companies that give you a quick, easy, free quote. Here’s a good place to start, they have low rates and their website is really easy: www.mercurytheory.com[/url]
