Transfering Vinyl to CD ? Whats the best way ?

Hey, any one out there got any tips for the best way for transfering the good old 12" to cd ?

Im of course not doing me whole colection but just a few of my "goodies" and my first few tunes i have done have a serious sound quality difference with the levels

I have just used software off the net on a free download and brought a untit from dick smiths because my levels were through the roof when i tried to record.

I have a digital numark digital mixer but cant seem to record straight from that ??? is this normal

Turntable > mixer > sound-card of some kind > recording software.

Most free recording software will be crap. Best try something like Wavelab if you can get your hands on it. Maybe even add a limiter into the chain when recording to make sure you don't have any peaks go through the roof.

Proof? He'll know some better input options/details.
