Other sites do the same. Its better than having 10 dead forums.
and that's a big problem with other sites. as i said in the lounge yesterday, when i was first getting into online communities, the thing that made biggie stand out was the fact that it facilitated specific music discussion.
see what i find a little mystifying is, there was "obviously" a need to separate sports from current affairs, because some people didn't like having to sift through a few sports threads to get to their current affairs threads... but now that's exactly what they're asking us to do.
also, the way trance is headed, it's probably closer to progressive than anything else.
also, as pie pointed out yesterday, if there are new people looking to get into a genre, or someone coming looking for discussions on new tunes, they might be led astray- which i assume was one of the original purposes of providing specific music discussion in the first place.
now, some people in the lounge thread suggested that biggie may have outgrown dance music. personally i would hope not. but merging music forums and creating a sports forum just seems to be moving the same problem around, but now it's us who has to deal with it.
AND, i don't see the need to merge the forums anyhow? slow traffic seems like somewhat of a lame excuse IMO.
nossy suggested also in the lounge that maybe we go elsewhere to get our own forums... well, that's definitely an option. however, a lot of us have a lot of (obvious) loyalty tied in with this site, and have a little something invested in it- some history at very least.
apparently it doesn't matter what we want any more though?
