I haven't personally, but i have run into many tour groups along the way and have had a few friends that have done Intrepid...mostly female. I think they are more popular with women as they feel safer.
You do get some great experiences and Intrepid especially isn't prescriptive for 24 hours...you get time to do your own thing. They do cost significantly more than if you did it yourself, but I also know organising everything yourself can take up a lot of time, and if you're doing it for weeks on end can be tiring.
If a well-worn tourist trail isn't your thing, and you are comfortable travelling by yourself, have time to plan and especially want to really get to know one country over a few weeks then maybe not. If you have 3-4 weeks and want to do 3-4 countries, then they save a lot of hassle.
