whos ur top 5 uk hardhouse djs

[quote]
1) Phil Reynolds
2) Nick Sentience
3) Skol
4) Steve Thomas
5) Phil Blake

Not really in any order, though.
[quote]
Although i would still pay to see BK, Andy Farley, Fergie, Anne Savage. Hell, the list could go on and on!
[quote]
slave - can u read my mind??? although I think I might have also added Jason Midro in there too!

Dont you mean Steve Blake??
[quote]
haha - yeah, thats what i meant. I was listening to a phil reynolds mix at the time and got alittle confused(not to hard when your me)!!
[quote]
Aren't most of them more hard-trance DJs slave1?

I'd go with (off the top of my head)

1) Yoji Biomehanika
2) Andy Farley
2) Ingo
4) Paul Glazby
5) Matt Clarke
[quote]
i would say they dabble their hands in both styles. Steve Blake and Phil are definitly into their hard trance (but definitly started as HH djs), but the others still kick up wicked HH sets.
[quote]
Nick Sentience is definitely hard/tech trance too Smile
[quote]
I'm 99% certain Phil Reynolds was always Hard Trance...have been known to be wrong though
[quote]
One interesting name on your list Slave1 - DJ Skol. What makes him a good dj in your opinion?
[quote]
Cause i used to rock to his sounds every sunday night at Fevah over in London!!

Hey coops, not disagreeing with ya (cause he has played alot of hard trance),but when he first started Fevah with Will and Spencer he used to play wicked hard house sets. It was like he played the harder stuff, while spencer played the more funky stuff.

Then again, 2 years ago or so there was no such thing as hard trance. What i mean to say is it wasnt pigeon-holed with a name (except maybe uplifting hard house). As i write this, yeah, Phil did play alot of uplifting hard house as well.
[quote]
Hard Trance IS Hard House in my book. These are Dj's I've seen.

Steve Thomas
Steve Hill
Nick Sentience
Alan Thompson
Tony Price & Matt Smallwood
[quote]
Jeeze ur a picky bastard mnemonik. Where does lisa lashes fit into this dispute over DJ types?
[quote]
I'd have to say that Hard Trance and Hardhouse are TOTALLY different.
[quote]
I used to play the odd time with Phil & Ian Mac at U4RIA in Acton. Phil's come along way since then huh ? he prolly was playing loads of hard house.....I woulda been to busy off my pickle & caning it on the dance floor to notice, hehe Smile

[quote]
eeerrr...anyway top 5, no particular order

Muzz - xcellent funky styles
Skol - eclecticness of his sets & mixing ability
Thermobee - dark & cheesefree
Loose - top bloke & huge range of great tunes
Jon Truelove - this guy was bangin super hard when Tony de Vit was still playing handbag tunes sped up...respekt !
[quote]
ahh, i might have seen you in action - went to u4ria a few times (even have a couple of cds somewhere).
Yeah, phils done real well, considering he could hardly mix at the first frantic (wills birthday)!
[quote]
I am indeed Smile

Lisa Lashes is definitely hardhouse.

And I agree with Simplex, hardtrance and hardhouse have split, and in the past few months both genres have definitely gone different ways - now are totally different Smile

[quote]
your probably like me PhunkyDave, in the sense that you may throw hard trance into hard house sets as you see fit, as apposed to having either a HH set or HT set.

Like i was saying in the HT vs HH thread, there are alot of tracks that could be classed as either (Signum-what ya got 4 me, Mexican vs Harry Diamond - Spectrum, etc).
[quote]
Yeah, I have tended torwards that alot more recently... and I was talking about this on the way to work this morning with my mate.

The reason I posted that comment above was just looking at the biggest influence of Hard Trance. You stack em up side by side and you'll see that Hard Trance is more or less Hardhouse with trance inspired rifs. Sure theres different emphasis in the bass, in the drums and in the lead track but deep down its a product of hardhouse.
[quote]
going on the live performances i have seen.
lisa lashes
paul glazby
fergie
Phil Reynolds
pete wardman
[quote]
Just to confuse things I'd label tunes that could be either Hardhouse or Hard Trance as Nu-NRG.
They still have the hard driving sound of hard house but have the melody, complexity and sweeping sound of trance.
[quote]
Throwing a spanner in the works, eh Simplex?!
[quote]
Just thought i'd stir up the tune pigeon holing pot Smile
[quote]
Simplex... so using mathmatical deduction and your above statements...

If TuneA = Hardtrance
AND
If TuneA = Hardhouse
THEN
Hardtrance = TuneA = Hardhouse
HEMCE
Hardtrance = Hardhouse
=
NU-NRG

mmmm
[quote]
I see it more like this

Nu Nrg = (1/2 Hardhouse) + (1/2 Hardtrance)
[quote]
hahaha Smile
[quote]
Phil Reynolds
Andy Farley
Nic Sentience
BK
Fergie
[quote]
YOGI by a long way!!!
Steve Blake
Ian Mac
Lab 4
BK
Yogi is definitely at the top...doesn't compare to any other...other than Lab 4 maybe!!
[quote]
I didn't think Lab4 where from the UK
[quote]
Bristol I think Muzik...
[quote]
I hear Steve Blake could be coming back in May
[quote]
if Lab4 aren't UK boys, they've been there for a while...

September 1991 Lez and Adam meet, & begin working together on various different projects, including the industrial metal band, 'M.A.D'...

September 1994 M.A.D. breaks up, and Adam and Lez start LAB4

December 1994 LAB4's first gig is a Torture Garden party at the Ministry of Sound

April 1995 LAB4 have their second gig; Universe at Club UK, alongside Derek Carter and Josh Wink
[quote]
They live in Oxford I think and Lez's sister is The Fallen Angel who set up One Inch, and Phantom Trax with Titchy Bitch...
[quote]
Yoji does HH/HT, or so i thought from when i saw him last yr.
N e way, d'js of the HH/HT genre i rate:
Skol
Andy Farley
Phil Reynolds
Matt Clarke
LAB 4
I luv to see Chris C and Madam Zu and Paul Glaby play live
Fergie
Looking forward to seeing BK and Nick Sentience
Earlier Tinrib...tho he's Nu NRG
[quote]
NU NRG eh?

like to explain the "meaning" of that phrase to us all.
[quote]
uh oh, here comes the "difference between Nu NRG and HH" debate.........
[quote]
and for the record, i agree that Tinrib are more NRG than HH.
[quote]
Crap, Tinrib isn't NRG

I went to see one of his live sets just before Xmas and it was far more HH than NRG
[quote]
who is 'he' exactly?! Im talking about a label here, not a person............
[quote]
Im presuming you were talking about Captain Tinrib?

If you look through the back catalogue of tinrib you will see what i mean. And they also state that they are an NRG label, so..........
[quote]
i suppose it depends on what you classify as NRG.

i've got quite a few records from the Tinrib label and each time i ordered them they were listed under the HH.

My local record store has tinribs classified under HH as well, though many labels have a variety of styles eg Nukleuz Blue, Purple, green, red to signify the genre. Tinribs are the same.
[quote]
going on the live performances i have seen.
lisa lashes
paul glazby
fergie
Phil Reynolds
pete wardman

now i can say that i have seen bk and nick sentience.. it would read this.

lisa
fergie
nick sentience
bk
paul glazby
phil renolds
pete wardman

but there is so many more that can pull of huge sets.
[quote]
Capt Tinrib classifies himself/his label as NRG. To be honest, i consider it to be HH. Maybe someone can explain the difference between the two?!
