Dave Clarke (from allmusic.com)
One of the most respected (and idiosyncratic) techno DJs and producers in the '90s, Dave Clarke began his music career as a hip-hop DJ in the mid-'80s, shifting to acid-house and later rave near the end of the decade. He began recording for Stress (as Pig City) in the early '90s and also appeared on R&S, XL and his own Magnetic North Records. By the mid-'90s, he had gradually shifted away from rave to a brand of straightahead techno with the ferocity of hardcore yet the sublime feelings of classic Detroit techno. A series of three singles named "Red" gained fame during 1995-96 (the last went Top 40 in the U.K.), as did his ferocious DJ sets.
Clarke's phenomenal album debut Archive 1 appeared in 1996 on Deconstruction. Demagnitized, a compilation of his earlier material on Magnetic North (with additional tracks from Cristian Vogel, DJ Hell and others), was released in 1995. Clarke also mixed two volumes of the crucial electro compilation series Electro Boogie for Studio !K7

Biography
Since Dave Clarke's debut album 'Archive 1' back in 1996 which contained one of dance music's greatest electronic anthems in 'Red 2' the Clarkester has gone on to become one of the world's most sought-after techno producers and almost certainly the genre's biggest DJ's, taking his uncompromising underground style around the globe.
Dave can be regularly seen DJing, it is estimated that he travels at least 800,000 miles per year to hand picked gigs at some of the world's best clubs. Regularly playing at the UK's Bugged Out!, Pure, Atomic Jam, Barcelona's Nitsa and Belgium's Fuse.
When he's not DJing in the world's most groundbreaking clubs he's in his studio producing his radio show 'Technology' that is currently being syndicated worldwide. He has even filled in for Annie Nightingale on Radio 1 with a 13 week stint and recently acheived a childhood ambition of playing a live mix Peel Session with the one and only John Peel in attendance (and 150 mad clubbers!). Last year he won the Essential Mix of the Year Award at the Muzik Awards. The word 'justice' springs to mind.
Last year also saw a limited 12" on longtime friend HellSs International DJ Gigolo imprint as 'The Compass' created so much interest that Pete Tong begged to get a copy and then made it essential new tune. This was then swiftly followed by the unusually titled 'Before I Was So Rudely Interupted Parts 1 and 2' available only as MP3 downloads from iCrunch. Displaying his electro and then techno side the amount of requests for the tracks would have dented the UK Top 10 if made more regularly commercially available. But then don't expect Dave to do the norm.
We're proud to announce that we've now signed Britain's finest techno DJ and producer Dave Clarke to Skint. "I've always liked his records and he's from Brighton" says Skint MD, Damian Harris. "A perfect addition to the squad. Also it was the only way I could get a copy of The Compass!"
"Techno's coming home!" said a delighted Dave when the deal was clinched over a cream tea in Rottingdean.
Dave's first release for us will be 'The Compass'. Featuring new remixes by Josh Wink and Terrence Fixmer, it is set to hit the racks in November.. Dave will soon begin work on his debut album, due for release in 2002.
