Hows,

Just wanted to ask the fellows out there using SSL or FS or maybe Traktor Scratch, what audio format you prefer to use with your software.

WAV / MP3 / MP4?

What is the minimum sample rate / Freq you'll stand for?

Are there any pros/cons with using one format over another?

Any advice would be appreciated Razz

How does time code relate to this?

Because most of the people using said software would be using timecoded vinyls...

320 mp3 - preferably encoded by myself.

Some 320's still sound shit.

320s are fine for me, if im going to edit tunes i purchase wave files so i dont lose anythigin uncompressing and recompressing.

waves take less cpu power on serato to process so better performance i guess Smile

Do you suffer at all from using WAV files due to their larger size? Any hold-ups loading etc?

If your set is made up of MP3's and WAV's, is there and audiable differene?

Proof - Does this mean that some tracks bought off beatport and the like (320kbps) can still sound inferior?

What software is recommended for recording (vinyls) to WAV?

I've bought tracks off Beatport at 320 (mp3's) that I have been fairly disappointed with and not played out. I have found Stompy.com tracks to be spot on, with no problems.

Yep. But it's normally the track's fault, not the format.

i have a laptop which i purely use for serato, its got a 80gb hdd in it so yeah i haven't even half filled up the drive as yet, but in saying that most of my collection is 320's purchased off download sites, but really waves dont really seem that bigger size to me when im downloading high def midget euro hardcore anal vids on my other pcs....

Actually, all compressed file-types have to be decoded when you load them to play. They use more CPU and RAM to do this and also take longer to load than an wav file.

You'll notice in SSL, Ableton Live, Wavelab.. just about anything, that loading a compressed file format takes significantly longer to load.

If you have the space storing the tunes at wav files is better.. however MP3s for example can have extra info embedded in them (like BPM, label, mix-down version etc - not as part of the file name) which can be useful sometimes and which wav don't allow.

Sweet, well I'll try and stick with waves as much as possible. Cheers
