Just puttin this out there, whu else here is a huge fan of the rotary engine, and if ya are. Which engine/car is ur fave. Im loving the lines of the series VIII rx-7 and also loive th old RX3's

Yeah mate, I had an rx-2 coupe for 10 years, well it was actually a capella. Spent about 12 or so grans on it before I moved on to the luxuries of the toyota camry wagon lol.

Would efinatly b keen to see sum footage sounds awesome. Pistons are fukin awesome dont get me wrong but i mean the power to displacment ratio of a rotor is amazing

I used to rock a Series 1 RX7 with a 12A bridgeport. It was a beautiful car to drive and I loved it, but I also hated it because it was old and finicky and I was terrified of blowing it and having to fork out for a full rebuild!

I still have respect for them, and I'd love to have a decent '7 (any series except 4) as a weekend/fun car.

A mate had an RX8 for a while and to be honest it just felt SLOOOOOWWWWWW. Not impressed! Needed a turbo BADLY!

speaking of which, what is it with all these eggs that go "get a rotor!!" to the v8 guys and vice versa

love Rotas! Looking at getting a 2002 RX7 Spirit R Type A at the end of the year. I also pitcrew for a Mazda Pro7 (Series 1 RX7 Standard 12A modified carby and exhaust) A lot of my friends have them, guy who drives the race car also has a Series 4, got another mate with a RX4 he's restoring and making mint and another with a nice old 323 wagon with a 12A bridgey.

have heard this too, would expect nothing less!

RX8 is only 177kw from factory, fit a good exhaust, improve intake and add a Microtech and you'll see a good improvement. I'd loved to get one and fit a Dyson prepped race 13b turbo!

Happend to me and Tom once, was fucken funny. This dude in his rust bucket giving us shit in a $70K car

177kw that you hardly feel until 7-8k rpm...

All up the car felt like a terrible compromise between sport and four door, with neither camp being well enough catered for.

Agreed, am keen to see what happens with the next series rx-7

but in saying that, its obvious they did something right as it was car of the year in autocar, top gear, and many other mags worldwide.

I have heard people prefer the RX8 over the 350Z even though the 350Z is quicker and have only heard good things until now, a turbo and good suspension would fix any driving issues but as a standard car I dont know, I tend to look at more what you can do with a car than what its like out of factory.

I'd say it'd be heaps of fun on the track. I also think it's flaws only really come out when you actually own one, as my mate thought it was the cat's pyjamas when he test drove it/first got it.

the Spirit R is by far the most awesome of the 7's, I want the Type A with no back seat and the carbon fibre race seats as standard, yea slighly wider, look fuckin mint! Comes with bilstein shocks and crossed drilled brake rotors as standard, I think theres only 1 or 2 in this country.

Ketzel (hioctane Overboost) seemed to like it when he drove one in japan, maybe they gotta nice feel to them when ya driving

that was the Veilside one tho wasn't it? I know he said it was only slightly modded but that thing was a work of art!

If u want a rotor sports car ya can't go past the series 4, it got the best of everything straight off, huge over the series 1

Thats what i figured realtivly cheap and ya get the advantage of being able to modify the booooooost

Just make sure ya get a good air/fuel gauge and make sure it doesn't lean out! and get a scatter shield

business mans car! and heavy! having said that awesome motors! they are sweet as but not my favourite looking rotor, I like the 7's and the 3's, can't go past a 20B though. Or the sound of a 20B-PP

yeah, have u seen the drag car in aussie YGO20B ? I def prefer a 13b turbo, but since I got taken for a thrash in a 12A bridgey I can really appeciate the NA Rota power, 2 heavy guys (im about 90kg) in a Mazda 323 wagon he could floor it in first, hook second and the back just steps, did doughnuts like nothing i've ever been in, so controllable.

im yet to experience i ride in NA rota but can still appreciate it... seeing them drag modern turbos is great hahaha

i stopped in at my mates place, and as i wandered down the driveway, i spied the typical bogan westy series 1. you know, crappy kit, fuck off big exhaust held on with number 8, covered in primer, most of the interior in pieces. the stereotypical shitbox rota.


i wander inside, strike up conversation as the spliff passes around....

New DVD box set coming out DIY 13B, the ins and outs of 13B engine building, should be good, Fag and Turbo reckon they'll have it available for purchase this Tues after telling me it was available today

If anyones interested in rotaries specifically the 13B I highly recommend the DIY RE series, the 4 box set is pricey ($140 from Mazda) and a high school media studies student could have done a better editing job but minus that its brilliant, they show from start to finish in depth and detail how to fully assemble a Series 6 13B from the parts and tools you need (a lot less than i thought for the tools) to how to lay everything out and detailed explanations on how the assemble the rotors and where all the seals go and how. Also a number of handy hints for reliability.

and to be honest, its an absolute piece of piss, time consuming (especially grinding rotor side seals) but very far from rocket science

Its honestly not hard and if you gave me the bits i could whip you one up in a lot less time than you'd think (as long as I didn't drop an apex seal spring down one of the water jackets like they did in the outtakes lol 2 hours of stripping down the motor to get it and putting it back together)

If you register the vids they send you a wall chart with the mazda parts numbners needed and an exploded view of the motor

They are planning to release a porting guide for Bridge J and PP as well as DIY-RE 20B AND DIY-RE 26B!! go the quad rotor!

the videos are of course just a guide but a bloody good place to start where you can see exactly whats involved etc without the bullshit and it honestly a diy home guide sop they show you with tools that shouldn't be hard or too expensive to place ya fingers on
