The 'tune of the year'... noticable trends?

2007: Accordion

2008: Trumpet ?

2009: I'm hoping for either flute or saxophone.

heh, yes well the premise is retained whilst my ignorance doth shine.

None the less, if we were to go back every year for the past 15 years or so and note the dominant 'organic' instrument (e.g. trumpet, saxophone) in the 'techno track of the year' does anyone think a pattern would emerge?
And could such data be used to determine what will be the hot new instrument for the following year? And who'd be up to produce a tune with said instrument? If the instrument of choice is Alto sax, hook me up!

non-techno but sax is making a big comeback at the moment... chromeo, jamie lidell, cut copy, etc.

The sound of 2009.. I was gonna say that muted, muddy keyboard that Chymera uses for all of his tracks.

Already started to hear a few 'me too' styled tracks on that.

(Drake - Yes I am aware someone else was using it earlier, but he's made it popular in the last 18 months in the underground and now the wake-riders are starting to notice and play his stuff)

yup that was 2008 but there has been another influx of new tracks, check the new tracks out on diynamic, below and internasjonal Norway just to name a few more

Too early to tell for this year I'd say.

You'll love Basti Grib, M.in, Ben Anders etc then. The label group which put their stuff out, Kaufke Musik, bloody owns that sound.

They even do those 1930s/polka sampling tunes which are becoming quite popular (relatively).

Think Akufen rinsed that micro polka sound to death in 2001... but could be proven wrong. Maybe
