Being accurate and correct with such a trivial detail has nothing to do with impressing me - someone who is neither a DJ nor looks for gigs

I'd be quite interested to learn Dan loved music and mucked about with playing cds or whatever but as this trivial detail is wrong in the ad I could only assume the entire thing is constructed and thus offends me as a music fan

1. sidelined - anything that detracts from the message is not good, ok in this instance very few will pick up[ on the inaccuracy but its an issue that need not be there

I don't care that much, it amuses me more than it offends... and with regards to myself I sometimes play records in public (2-3 times a year on average), something I enjoy but is purely a hobby and one that gives me no sense of self importance or inflated ego or any other thing you may assume due to my incredible skills at being able to push a play button

3. If he's done so before then build on that and do it in a manner that doesn't open itself to ridicule by ' self important wankers' like me

But if I had to hazard a guess I imagine the ad producers knew it wasnt accurate, but the general non-DJ nature of the target market they rightly decided it was better to make it "cool" than "accurate"

the gear he's using doesn't play nor is it playing vinyl, he has 2 cds in front of him and a computer to the side - ie there is no vinyl and no way he could with that gear play vinyl

that is what upsets me - its inaccurate... and thus undermines the campaign imo

and yes I do look forward to many years writing to the editor and complaining to the BSA as that grumpy old guy

I too saw the print ad in the weekend and too wondered what they meant by vinyl, but let it go pretty fast. It's an advert targeted at 95% of the general population. And those people are fucking imbeciles.

95% of the general public deserve to be treated with respect - ie ads should be fair and accurate

It went like this: Monday morning some ad guy was reading his emails on his Mac laptop whilst sipping on a lovely organic latte from the co-op downstairs. "Hey Alex, someone sent me this link, it's about the Phillips campaign. Might want to have a look." Alex has a read; "Christ, how did we not see this happening?!" By mid-afternoon there has been a meeting held with key stakeholders, possibly a Phillips rep, and, after a cost-benefit analysis into whether the expense of changing the word would mitigate any future brand embarrassment, the decision was made to change the word "vinyl" to the more correct in this case "music."
