I have more in common with him than I thought. I too like djing, and I shave upwards of 2 times a week..

Jeeez you DJ's are a precious self important bunch...Id wager rock stars dont give a fuck about randoms badly strumming a guitar.

Get over yourselves imo

Music
[quote]
imagine it is a rock styled ad that said "dan strums a guitar"

when in fact he is sitting at a piano...

If the ad was accurate your point would have some validity

If Phillips and Carter want to push the DJ line at least get it right... they've failed and I'm being precious?

[quote]
Ah ha ha haa, more fuckhead all blacks being fuckheads. Maybe they should spend more time actually playing that rugby game, they might actually win something other than make up and clothing endorsements.

Why should Phillips be concerned with "getting it right?" To impress you bitter self important lot? I dont know how to DJ, so I dont even know wats wrong with the scenes. I'd say most of the target audience would be the same.

dan shows considerable humilty in the ad, he states he's not very good...he just loves having a crack. Good for him for doing something he enjoys? What do yuo need a cool-badge or a diploma to try spinning a few records?

Dont worry, he not going to try and steal any of your gigs

[quote]
its the inaccuracy of the ad that offends me the most, as a record lover - I don't give a rats arse about dan as dj

unless his tastes are similar to mine, which is is very safe to assume aren't

Um in the interests of being accurate perhaps? So there important spend isn't side lined by stuff like this

Being accurate and correct with such a trivial detail has nothing to do with impressing me - someone who is neither a DJ nor looks for gigs

I'd be quite interested to learn Dan loved music and mucked about with playing cds or whatever but as this trivial detail is wrong in the ad I could only assume the entire thing is constructed and thus offends me as a music fan

wikky wikky scratch...

Maestro, if there was some ad of guys playing poker and the button raised a couple limpers but only puts a single chip in and doesn't verbalise the raise you'd be livid right? I mean, it's obviously a call, right!?!? AND THESE FKN AD AGENCIES CAN GET FUCKED FOR NOT PAYING ATTENTION TO THE MINUTIAE OF LIVE POKER AMIRITE!?!? Mad Mad

1) Um in the interests of being accurate perhaps? So there important spend isn't side lined by stuff like this

2) Being accurate and correct with such a trivial detail has nothing to do with impressing me - someone who is neither a DJ nor looks for gigs

3) I'd be quite interested to learn Dan loved music and mucked about with playing cds or whatever but as this trivial detail is wrong in the ad I could only assume the entire thing is constructed and thus offends me as a music fan

1) Sidelined? Sidelined by what? I think...Phillips will give no fuck about a few jumped up DJ's bleating. I mean....umm...Even if DJ's would consider boycotting Phillips products over this ad, I cant imagine turntables sales represents a massive % of their turnover

2) Thats weird. You appear to be contridicting yourself here. Do you care...or not? Also... Im sure Ive seen yuor name advertised on gig flyers. Are there 2 Bob Daktaris?

3) Its not a beat up. Dan has talked abot his love fro DJ'ing before.
[quote]
1. sidelined - anything that detracts from the message is not good, ok in this instance very few will pick up[ on the inaccuracy but its an issue that need not be there

2. I don't care that much, it amuses me more than it offends... and with regards to myself I sometimes play records in public (2-3 times a year on average), something I enjoy but is purely a hobby and one that gives me no sense of self importance or inflated ego or any other thing you may assume due to my incredible skills at being able to push a play button

3. If he's done so before then build on that and do it in a manner that doesn't open itself to ridicule by ' self important wankers' like me

is it really asking much for the ad to just be accurate?

really?

Is it asking much for this ad to actually be correct - ie Dan enjoys DJing and playing the music he loves from himself and his friends when not concerned with rugger

Think I know how the BSA complainant felt last week http://www.throng.co.nz/one-news/serial-complainant-receives-50-fine-bsa

[quote]
Bob doesn't do gigs, he does rants interspersed with occasional mp3s from his iphone.

I don't see the worlds of djing and rugby to be so disparate, not many people know this but Richie Hawtin was actually a pretty good first 5 for the Windsor Boys High School 2nd IV, and Francois Kervorkian first came to New York not to dj, but to coach the Fire Island Mens social rugby team.
[quote]
dammit BN1 I don't want to learn interesting facts about stuff Smile
[quote]
Proof and I turned up to dj at a rugby 21st once.....we left after maybe ten minutes and the juke box was playing Will Smith and the Exponents.
[quote]
I dont know whats "wrong" with the ad.

But if I had to hazard a guess I imagine the ad producers knew it wasnt accurate, but the general non-DJ nature of the target market they rightly decided it was better to make it "cool" than "accurate"
[quote]
ok I'll say this slowly (ask again and I'll speak really loudly) - the ad states (print ad - refer to link for bigger pic) "Rugby superstar Dan Carter looks to vinyl"

the gear he's using doesn't play nor is it playing vinyl, he has 2 cds in front of him and a computer to the side - ie there is no vinyl and no way he could with that gear play vinyl

that is what upsets me - its inaccurate... and thus undermines the campaign imo

and yes I do look forward to many years writing to the editor and complaining to the BSA as that grumpy old guy Smile

lulz
[quote]
I hate to think what inaccurate displays would greet me in the outdoor world and cause me offence

still don't think it much to expect advertising to be accurate - thousands of fiancee companies investors wish others agreed (slippery slope, it starts with vinyl then you lose your retirement fund)
[quote]
To be fair he can't even play those CDs from that rig can he? Unless he rips them to his laptop?

The print ad grates me too, although the video one seems to have it's shit together.
[quote]
I too saw the print ad in the weekend and too wondered what they meant by vinyl, but let it go pretty fast. It's an advert targeted at 95% of the general population. And those people are fucking imbeciles.
[quote]
95% of the general public deserve to be treated with respect - ie ads should be fair and accurate

to dismiss this and other instances as "it is what it is" is lazy and only serves to help us devolve to the level drooling fools that marketers and that ilk can easily manipulate as they choose

we deserve better in other words - and with such a tiny/trviial detail why not be 100% accurate

normally this would have passed me by as I don't read or notice most ads, but it was pointed out to me and as such I'm offended and unshaved

Why exactly are people "fucking imbeciles" ....just because they dont know their way around the back of a set of turntables?

You obviously have not met enough people.

Also, most DJs fit into that 95% category.
[quote]
Laughing ha ha cunny funts!
[quote]
Yeah, there's that too. You have NO idea of the number of times a DJ called me up to complain "the decks aren't working". I go to fix and find it's some trivial thing like not being plugged in, not being turned on, being on fire, something simple and obvious like that, something even a total moron could figure out.
[quote]
he's a product whore!

"I hope people make the connection between me and Philips and it gets them excited"

no Dan, what would get me excited is for you to

1 get down on your knees

2 get your lips round my cock ..... bitch Very Happy
[quote]
LOL and Maestro getting all up in arms about a 'trivial fact'. You have been the first to jump down peoples throat when they get something slightly wrong in the past.

Lets be reasonable here, 'vinyl' is uber chic and cool right (which in itself is funny) Phillips are obviously going to play on that.. However, the least they could do is actually have a turntable in the shot. Or at the very least, not mention vinyl and just play on the DJ tip. Id like to see a record being played on that. :>

Asking for something to be accurate isn't us DJs being holier than thou, it's simply a person noticing that a print ad is wrong. Had it been someone who doesn't DJ, you would have been all over this like a rash.

Are you trying to say that just because bob d owns records he isn't allowed to point out a fault in an ad relating to DJ tools? LOL, come on. Take your boring argument elsewhere.

Oh, and many Lulz over you accusing Spike of being DJ. Must just be because he had a comment to make that was different to yours. Razz

[quote]
you could also mention that one of the CD cases seems to show a rack of records.... but my point remains and is I feel fair

and fyi - records should never be called vinyl or vinyls - they are records and come in varying sizes, 12", 10", 7" being the main

Haha, whatever Maestro, I wasn't commenting to start a fight. I don't spend hours at a time on here, however today your vapid comments caught my eye. I can't be bothered arguing with someone who is arguing just for the sake of it, not actually to put across any valid points. Troll on, son.

The print version of the ad in this weekends herald had the text as 'Dan Carter looks to music for inspiration'..
Maybe someone heard your rantings and made a change bob..
[quote]
It went like this: Monday morning some ad guy was reading his emails on his Mac laptop whilst sipping on a lovely organic latte from the co-op downstairs. "Hey Alex, someone sent me this link, it's about the Phillips campaign. Might want to have a look." Alex has a read; "Christ, how did we not see this happening?!" By mid-afternoon there has been a meeting held with key stakeholders, possibly a Phillips rep, and, after a cost-benefit analysis into whether the expense of changing the word would mitigate any future brand embarrassment, the decision was made to change the word "vinyl" to the more correct in this case "music."

Your ranting in action.

The socialite has been shadowing new friends Deadmau5 and Afrojack and is planning to join Deadmau5 onstage in the near future. According to TMZ, Hilton is currently in Ibiza recording an album with David Guetta and is hoping to release the record by the end of this year.
