Lol, I love the selective memory where no one mentions that we had a perfectly legit goal incorrectly disallowed in the first leg as well as Alex Song being given about 10 final warnings when he could've easily picked up a second yellow.

It seems Arsenal fans are finally revolting, this is a great summary of this season so far:

This is a man who this season, has broken records, and achieved things no other Arsenal manager of the last 25 years has achieved!

Look at these records:
1. Becoming the first manager in Premier League history to toss a 4-0 lead. Which other so-called top manager has achieved such genius?

2. Becoming the first manager in Champions League history to go 90 minutes of a game without a single shot on goal. Some record!

Having been given seven years to build a title-winning side, it's all coming together beautifully now. The Faith has been repaid and Arsene has treated us to unprecedented brilliance this season.

Highlights include:

1. Trailing West Brom 3-0 at home with 20 minutes to go.

2. Becoming the first Arsenal manager in over 20 years to suffer back-to-back league defeats to Spurs!

3. Managing to throw a 2-0 lead at home to Spurs, and lose the game 3-2. Which other manager would you replace him with?

4. Being the only team in the Top Four to lose at home to Newcastle.

5. Failing to win a CL group Arsenal were in total command of after three matches. Do You know of any other manager who could manage this?

6. Contriving to lose a Carling Cup, in which they failed to beat the mighty Birmingham in the final! No other manager could do his job.

7. The nadir of brilliance, managing to lose to a Man United reserve team in which Fergie played with seven defenders and two strikers. The only recognised midfielder they played was the impostor known as Darron Gibson. In Arsene We Trust.

8. Going out of three competitions in 13 days, due in large part to a lack of squad depth and recurring multiple injuries. Groundhog Day is so ingrained at the club now, thanks to Arsene, that he's been renamed Bill Murray.
[quote]
Hahah! Harsh but true. They need Rafa to come in and spend that money Arsene's been hoarding imo Very Happy

I still hold out hopes that they can prevent the Mancs from getting their 19th but I'm not holding my breath as I really cannot see it with their injuries and what must now be rock bottom morale... COYG! FOYM!
[quote]
The only one that really stands out is the one about back to back loses to Spurs for the first time in 2 years... Given that Wenger as been in charge for about 15 of those years and presided over Arsenal's longest unbeaten streak against them I think it's a tad harsh.
[quote]
2 = 20 years

[quote]
ffs @ us. Can't score to save our lives atm. And the long ball shit we resorted to (Carra was just hoofing the fkn thing at Carrol every single time he got the ball) is fucking horrid. Deserved to lose imo, but Kenny fielding Cole and Maxi really didn't help either. Both massive wastes of time imho.
I'd rather he use Jovanovic and Spearing over those two as at least Spearing is young and learning while Milan is used to playing on the left, but even Jovanovic on the left and Kuyt back on the right with Ngog alongside Carrol would work better imo. Needed width that we just didn't get and the last is the best option we have in getting it.
[quote]
Fuck you Arsenal. I fucking knew you'd hand it over without even trying. Ssly, fuck you. Now we all have to listen to Manc cunts for the next ten years until my lads have the funds and the right setup to make another title challenge. Sadly I can't imagine it being next year with the changes we need to make.
[quote]
Exactly no one bottles quite like Arsenal, Wenger is also readred, mental strength? Mental strength is not going 2-0 down against relegation candidates (or 3-0 down to them at home for that matter), sure they made a nice come back but none of that matters because they dropped 2 points against a side they have to beat to win the league. I'm sorry Arsene but your side have no mental strength, dress it up anyway you like but the fact is you have an injury prone squad (this is no longer bad luck, the problem has gone on so long I'm convinced it's related to training methods) that are incapable of performing when the pressure is on.
[quote]
Oh ye of little faith.

Arsenal beat Spurs
Arsenal beat Man U
Arsenal win title
[quote]
The thing is Liverpool tried that approach (win the big games) and wound up a couple of points short, the other problem is that you haven'y beaten Man United for years... I imagine it will play out like it always does, Arsenal dominate, have a couple of stonewall penalties turned down, RVP hits the woodwork about 4 times, VDS makes a string of great saves... But Man United win 1-0 after scoring a goal on the counter.

Dude, we only lost two all season, so saying we were only trying to win big games is a bit unfair, even if it kinda felt that way to most of us. We just drew too many (eleven), and drew twice against both Arsenal and Stoke, and four points would have seen us take it on GD. We also got 86 points which no-one is getting this year. Still fkn hurts Crying or Very sad
[quote]
doh
[quote]
Exactly, it was the points you dropped against Stoke that cost you the league, Manchester United beat everyone in the bottom half home and away that season and lost to your lot twice, lost to and drew with Arsenal (incidentally the last time Arsenal beat them), drew with and beat Chelsea, so against the top sides that season they picked up 5 from 15 possible points and yet they still won the league. From memory you guys also lost to Spurs when they were rock bottom of the table under Juande Ramos - their only win that season under Juande Ramos.
[quote]
Three seasons on the trot we've lost there now; FOYS! Just kidding, I'd prefer that lot to get fourth rather than City but can't see it happening...
[quote]
Yeah it's pretty much an imperative that Spurs finish 4th, they've been fantastic in the CL and another 4th finish should allow them to bring in the world class striker they lack. Whereas if City finish outside they'll just sack Mancini and bring in a whole new batch of players, or if they finish fourth Mancini will stay and they'll bring in a few more and probably keep playing terrible football. But Spurs lack of firepower is looking like costing them a CL place next year (unless they win the whole thing).
[quote]
I just sorely dislike the alternative but you have a very fine point with which I heartily agree Laughing

[quote]
mySky'ed the lot and had the day off to watch them all today which was ace. Hoping to arrange next Thursday off as well for another marathon CL watching session. Not great results for me but great day of footy watching nonetheless ^_^

Anyhoos, ffs Crouch, wtf, honestly... Needless. Spurs were the team I wanted to win for the good of English football, but now I'm having to pin my hopes on Shalke for the sake of German football. I've decided Jenas was the player who let them down the most, though; his defensive mistakes were directly involved in at least two of the goals Spurs conceded imo when they were otherwise handling reasonably well.

Chelsea, sort it the fuck out before the away game plz. Fucking gypped on the penalties though, particularly the first which the ref could see clearly. Utterly ridiculous. However, Ancelotti, what the fuck were your subs about? Pulling Drogba? You have Wigan at home on the weekend. He was not injured. He was the only forward worth his salt on the field, and was regularly drawing, and sometimes also beating, two markers. You were playing at home. And you were a goal down. Retarded decision. Lampard, regain your form or step down for a player capable of providing (if not scoring as much), such as Benayoun. You weren't bothered in the most important game of your season and that is fucked. Torres, learn where the goal mouth is, and learn to move into space and test defenders positioning rather than sitting still upfield sulking. I'm beginning to hate you even more than when you first betrayed us now that I am counting on your new team to beat Man U. Sort it at theirs plz, or step down for Anelka to do what he does better atm than the rest of your team.

Schalke (about whom I know fuck all), great result! Was a pleasure to watch you playing the kind of game I had hoped Spurs would play. Furthermore, LOOOOOOOOOL Inter you cunts! Your losing was the only result that I was impressed by.

Barca home result was to be expected, so we only glanced at the game occasionally as we had all the fixtures on the go as a tournament on Fifa 11 by that point. Spurs ended up winning in the final against Schalke with Crouchy scoring from distance. Here's hoping the next round plays out towards that final ^_^
[quote]
Has Torres even scored for Chelsea yet? Laughing Laughing

[quote]
You're wrong on Jenas, the player that let Spurs down the most was Lennon, he pulled out when they were in the tunnel with a sore throat. A sore throat? How is it you made it that far before deciding you were too sick to play? He complated the warm up and all yet seconds before kick off pulled out, if it was that bad he shoud've let Harry know a fews ago not seconds before the game. As result Harry had to reshuffle with Jermaine 'Terrible Footballer' Jenas coming in and Modric moving to the left and Bale to the right. Lennon basically was like a little kid who is about to go on stage but pisses his pamnts and runs of crying instead, except he's a grown man.
[quote]
And he has spazmo arms.
[quote]
Disagree re Lennon, he had announced on Sunday that he was crook and he was put on meds by their staff, so the medical staff definitely knew it, and Harry himself has said that he saw that Lennon was crook, so the failing was either between Harry and the medical staff or was actually tactical. Imo Harry was doing a Saffa in announcing his teamsheet incorrectly and is using this as a cover story; we all know Lennon on the sheet looks a fuck ton more imposing than Jenas Razz

http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2011/apr/06/aaron-lennon-denies-illness-tottenham-real

lol re spazmo arms tho! Laughing

Also forgot to mention lol of the day yesterday: Tommy Smyth deciding a Spurs player who took a shot was offside, though the player had received the ball directly from a long Bale throw in. Excellent work you fake accent cunt, learn the rules plz Laughing Laughing
[quote]
Heh, others have mentioned it too; was the throw that almost went to the centre of the box which van der Vaart brought down off his chest but failed to slap home ^_^
[quote]
If you make it through the warm up and 2 seconds before kick off decide you can't play, you've bottled it. Besides, it's a sore throat unless he's planning on swallowing the ball it shouldn't be an issue, and if it was an issue it should have become apparent in training and the pre-match warm up, not 5 seconds before kick off.
[quote]
BAM! Good win for the boys but still ain't lookin' pretty for CL; still technically possible though and you never can count out the mighty Reds blower

Fucking brilliant! Although I would have preferred one of us to win from open play, we definitely didn't deserve to lose that that deep into extra time with three players off injured (as well as three of our first team out injured). Young boys did us really proud, and Lucas earned the first MOTM that I have ever wanted to award him Smile

Bit shit that those manc cunts are gonna get their 19th now, but fuck it, I don't think Arsenal have the bottle atm to get back those points anyway blower

From F365:

quote:

Whatever You Do, Don't Call Him Mad DogMediawatch is not the biggest fan of Martin 'Mad Dog' Allen, who we're told really doesn't like being called 'Mad Dog'.

However, we have to doff our caps to Mad Dog - recently installed as Notts County manager - for his welcome message to the Magpies faithful, published on the club's website on Wednesday.

If we were going to get all pseudy and strokey-beard about it, we'd describe it as part Joyce-esque stream of consciousness, part Dr Seuss nonsense poem.

But if we were just going to be ourselves, it's a 100%, Grade-A, Olympic class slice of bonkers joy.

Mad Dog starts off by going through the entire staff at Notts, from the admin staff to the masseurs, describing them all as 'top lads/girls'. Mad Dog even praises the bus driver for driving 'calmly and smoothly' and someone who works in the office for ironing his shirt.

Mad Dog then tells how he's been hugging the players, and how Mad Dog's sending them to the local hospital to meet people 'less fortunate them ourselves'. Which is very lovely, obviously.

However, all this is preamble compared to the penultimate paragraph, which Mad Dog uses as a sort of Gumtree ad for himself. A précis simply will not do, so here is the whole thing. Remember, if you will, that this is the manager of a professional football club writing on that club's official website:

'I am trying to find somewhere to kip. I don't like these posh hotels. I don't want nothing flash. If you know anyone, it's for me and my dog Monty who is a very good boy. I need somewhere, preferably on the south side of Nottingham to kip, have a bit of food maybe and kind of be a dosser who will keep himself to himself, who works long hours. Very polite and well mannered, friendly, funny, kind, caring, occasionally mad. If anyone can help, please contact the club.'

Phenomenal.

Lot of utter bollocks... Everything Barcelona did was born out of the fact that Mourinho's teams go out and kick them off the park. Messi was fouled more times over the series of 4 matches than the entire Real Madrid squad, a squad that cost £500m, and the best they can do is sit back and kick anyone that gets close to them. I'll admit the behaviour in the First Leg was a bit OTT but this was born out of getting getting kicked from pillar to post by a team of dispicable cloggers like Pepe, Alonso, Ramos, and Carvalho. Basically the attidue was if you're going to kcik us we're going to make sure the ref knows you did, you might not like the theatrics but it's been born out of the underhandedd tactics that teams employ to beat them over the last few years. Look at the foul count of any team that's beaten them and it's immediately obvious how they did so. You might not like it but the fact is staying down after a foul or going down easy after contact has never broken anyone's leg unlike the tactics teams use to beat Barcelona. The thing is it's worked, referees are now aware of what happening and taking action hence why we get horrible little men like Mourinho whinging that life is unfair because the referee wouldn't let his innocent little cloggers kick the crap out of the opposition and that was all Barcelona's fault.
[quote]
so grabbing your face and rolling around the ground when contact was nowhere near it is ok? lol
[quote]
I'll admit Busquets is a cunt, but I was surprised with Pedro as it seemed out of character for him but if he carries on I'll be happy to admit he's a cunt too. Despite the reaction Arbeloa cynically shoulder blocked when the ball was miles away and Pedro was about to head to into open spaces - and I remember him getting Adebayor sent off in exactly the same way when he played for Liverpool. Or Steven Gerrard's dive in the CL final against Milan... Or the match against Arsenal last season where he spent the second half running into Arsenal players falling over and then chasing the ref around. Pot Kettle Black and all that.
[quote]
fair enough. I don't support either team but god i hate the most when players grab their faces and roll around when it goes nowhere near their head Sad

Hahah, I can understand you are looking to defend your team but even you know that those performances were the worst example of diving football this side of South America. Seeing Mascherano having become the worst culprit after all his being a hard man for us is the worst part for me. Goes to show it is a team mentality/training thing rather than an individual player thing, and I can't support that even against the team I have far more historical reason to dislike.

Anyhoos, after this mornings results, I have some exciting news. We are going to be in the CL next year! Check the maths.

Manchester City to lose to Spurs by two at home on Tuesday, to draw to Stoke at home, and then to draw to Bolton away. Picking up a total of two points and lose two from their GD thanks to Tottenham, giving them +19 and 64 points.

Tottenham beat City by two, but lose to us by two, then beat the Brummies by two. Their GD doesn't matter as it's a bit ugly already, but I imagine they end up with a +9 GD and 62 points.

And we beat Fulham away by one, beat Tottenham at home by two, then beat Villa away by two, earning +5 to our GD for a total of +20 and 64 points.

And in doing so, we take fourth on goal differential. Better still if Bolton can beat City at home on the final day 1-0 that'll allow us to take fourth cleanly ^_^

COME ON REDS; YNWA! blower

In other exciting PL news, Chelsea re-take top spot tonight on goal difference! Chelsea then sure things up next week at home against Newcastle with an impressive win while United grind out a win against Blackburn away, and although Blackpool end up taking a beating at Old Trafford and sadly getting relegated on the last day, Everton also suffer a heavy defeat at home against Chelsea who hold onto the title they so nearly lost mid season.

Hahah, yeah, watched the game earlier and must say I was disappointed but was more disappointed with Chelsea's performance at Old Trafford. Chelsea were fucking mud whereas Spurs were just unfortunate.

All good though; Liverpool shouldn't be stuck relying on others' results to have things go our way anyway Smile

Happy news is that since KK took over, we have earned more points and gotten a better GD (+16 in 16) than anyone else in the league. 33 from a potential 48 has us ending up with 78 points next year, and we have played all of the big boys save Spurs who we meet this weekend. This also includes the first few games under Kenny's stewardship where we got slapped due to a want-away Torres and the turmoil of a manager change.

Taking only games with our new squad (which includes the ongoing injuries to key players with Johnson, Carroll, Agger, and Gerrard all having played only about four games each on average during this period) we have picked up 26 points from twelve games, and have faced all of the "big" teams save Spurs. That is 26 from a possible 36, and a goal difference of 19. We've also had our typical Liverpool kinds of glitches with unexpected loses to relegation teams etc, but this team in this kind of form would give us 82 points at the end of the season, and a GD of 57. THAT is what Liverpool should be thinking about, and that is where my energy lies Smile blower

ps. Please Lord let us avoid shitty bastard UEFA Cup football! If we can't play top flight let's not waste our time or injure our players unnecessarily; let's focus instead on CL the year after and only send out our juniors for it if we do happen to get EL next season (* I freely admit to having nfi how English qualifying for EL works though I have studied fucking hours trying to understand it Razz).

pps. We beat United on away goals (H 3-1, A 3-2), beat Chelsea clean (H 2-0, A 0-1), drew 1-1 home and away to Arsenal, and lost and won 3-0/0-3 to Man City this season. Tottenham beat us A 2-1, so my prediction for the weekend is a H 3-1 win for us (though, as above, I wouldn't mind dropping a game if it means we miss EL) Laughing blower

ppps. Of our games against the big five while Kenny has managed us, we have taken ten of a possible twelve. SEE YOU NEXT SEASON CUNTIES! blower :>

pppps. All three relegation teams at present have either beaten us or at least scored draws at Anfield this year (West Ham away 3-1, Wigan both home AND away 1-1, Blackpool away 2-1 and home 1-2). Does God hate us losing unexpectedly so much that He banishes those teams who give us grief? Sad to see Blackpool and Hammers so precariously perched but hopefully Wolves will lose to Sunderland and replace one of them. West Ham have Wigan away then Sunderland at home so they MAY scrape out (have to watch that this weekend), but Blackpool with Bolton home and United away have less of a chance to dictate their own fate. Gonna be an interesting finish to the season for fkn realsies!
[quote]
You've oversimplified a few things there Tony, for starters I don't really see how Grrard's absense matters. It's been two seasons since he was consistently good and I just can't see him getting back to playing well week in week out at his age. He's gone the same way as Lampard as we see the so-called golden generation fade away with little more than a couple of quarter finals to show for their efforts (internationally). Kenny still has some work to do as Rafa did a lot of damage which still needs to be fixed before you're serious challengers again. I'm sorry that you feel differently but the more I think about it the more I'm convinced that despite his success in Cups and one 2nd place in the league, he really did ruin your club. He did this in two ways, a) terrible inability to purchase squad players and b) no faith whatsoever in the academy. People liek to point out his net spend but the fact is he spent a lot of money on a lot of players who were terrible, didn't deliver what they were supposed to, or didn't get along with him. He may have got good money when he sold them but the fact is a club like Liverpool doesn't buy players to sell them two seasons later. His first XI signings all generally worked out (Reina, Torres, Alonso and Mascherno if you focus on how they played rather than how they left, Johnson to a lesser extent as he's stil defensively suspect) but it was paying £10m for squad players that didn't work out that cost him in the end. Nothing wrong with paying what he did but the long list of fringe players that tried and failed is ultimately why Liverpool's lack of depth was so cruelly exposed as they followed up their best PL finish ever by missing out on the CL, when he said he needed more money the yanks weren't wrong to point out how much they'd already given him.

Now most clubs use academy graduates to supplement their first team, even if they're not good enough to be first XI the fact is they are connected to the club and usally happier to play a squad role than foreigners and more determined to try harder for the club. Rafa ignored his academy players for his entire reign, on the one hand he demanded an overhaul, but on the other he happily brought in foreigners while dismayed graduates went elsewhere in seach of football.

KK is definitely on the right track but I think there are stilll big holes in the Liverpool's first team right now that need to be addessed before they can be seen as top 4 challengers again. The wings and left back need immediate attention, not just squad players either but proper world class players, one for each position (so 3 overall), they also need to keep Reina. In terms of depth KK has shown he has a great eye for youth with his immediate promotion of Martin Kelly, as well as use of other academy grads since he took over, while I believe this will continue to improve and we will see more Scousers/academy graduates coming through at Liverpool for the time being I think they should probably invest in a squad winger on top of the other two first teamers that are essential. So while Kenny is on eth eright track I suspect that unless he is backed heavily in the summer that it will take one more season to undo what Rafa did.

Me? Oversimplifying, pontificating, skiting, crowing, and carefully using select stats on the biggie football thread? NO WAY!! Laughing Laughing

As for Stevie being missed, I agree that he hasn't regained his amazing form of two seasons back, but at present I really don't think in terms of both mentality and the ability to step up there is any player (save Carra on the mentality stakes) more capable of rousing our lads or inspiring our supporters when the chips are down than Stevie. For that reason alone I'd have him on the pitch every game, and if you interpret my highly valuing our loss of that as oversimplifying, I'd have to flatly disagree.

As for Rafa, I liked his achievements but, as I'm certain you and I have discussed many times irl, there was plenty of other stuff about the way he went about his job that I didn't like. I backed him because he was our manager and because we had seen some magic under him, and I applauded him when I saw him a few weeks back at the Hillsborough memorial, but he was far from perfect and seemed to get worse toward the end of his tenure.

I also agree with our needing some new blood and quality depth to the squad, but, if anything, our performances of late are even MORE impressive with an injury weakened and less "marquee" squad than our historic counterparts can boast. Seems that we have a nice combination of academy and purchases at present (two academy graduates and a newly purchased junior player alongside one new senior recruit from each window on the pitch this weekend, for example); in fact I'd suggest a more aesthetically pleasing ratio than any of the big boys, and perhaps even more than any team in the PL.

In short, if anything, Kenny has brought faith to both the players and the supporters, and given proper player management and inspiration to the players who have not had this from either Rafa or Roy. As Danny Murphy pointed out after the Fulham game, we have performed under Kenny in a situation where essentially nothing is on the line. But we have scrapped back from twelfth to fifth under Kenny with some serious difficulties to handle, and, on a week when we have seen our outside chance of regaining a CL spot slip away and our title history get surpassed by our fiercest rivals, we are more than entitled to - no, we in fact SHOULD be - celebrating our successes.

And anyone who disagrees with that is a gaping axe wound <:

Ah yeah sorry that post was somewhat dishevelled as I wrote it over about an hour and a half in between doing various things at work. I'm not sure half the sentences are even linked and I started out down the oversimplification of the results under Kenny path before getting distracted, side tracked, and then restarted down a different path several times.

Talk is Ashley Young is almost locked in for you guys whic would be a great signing, as he'd be assured first team football at Liverpool whereas there would be no guarantees at United.

Nice re Ashley Young, and good point re Man U; makes sense for him to join us over them really, especially with Valencia and Nani playing as they have been.

Also have to retract a comment I made; apparently Chelsea have scored more points than us while Kenny's been running things. Doh!

On this been reading a bit of Beeb and it have been stunned to read comments from Rangers fans claiming they hope Celtic win the league so Lennon can walk away with his head held high. It isn't a GTFO of fottball type thing it's mor eof a "we're embarassed by the elemtns within and are fearful that if remains this will escalate and something very bad might happen". Most believe that Lennon will walk away after he wins the SPL purely for the sake of his family so to see a few Rangers fans hope this would happen shows just how messed up the situation is.

No moral outage at the disgusting site of Manchester United's defence running half the pitch to surround and scream at the linesman?
[quote]
Didnt recognise the player cos Im nowhere near as big a football geek as some, (shaved head, I think hes a defender?) but there was one Man U playr whose behaviour was disgusting. Cannot understand how players are not sent off for that sort of thing. Linesman hadnt even told the ref his decision and he was getting utterly sprayed Neutral

What a fucking booer this weekend was. Didn't see the United game and had avoided results, but saw our result by accident so checked others. Poo pile Sad

Turns out SPurs had extra motivation, they were to of the fair play table which would've meant a first qualifying round birth in the Europa League in early July. As opposed to a third qualifying round birth in August that they should now secure, they had to qualify to avoid being thrown in much earlier due to the fair play draw. Where Liverpool should get a decent holiday.

Watching our game now and not as disheartening as I thought; good game and fair result Smile

United are not a real team, they are a fantasy side whipped into a frenzy by a frightening Scotsman. They dont play for England or even Manchester, they play because they are scared of what will happen at training if they dont

Ahaha, I had some good looks rolling through Foxes from the busy side in my Liverpool jacket and shirt Laughing

Was a good game though, and although I was torn as to who I should support, I had a great time supporting both as required. I do wish United had've done a little better in the score department, though, as now we have to put up with Jono skiting about how much better Spanish football is than English for a year or so as they toppled two of England's best on their way through. At least losing on penalties would have given it an element of lottery, but that was a slapping, and in their own backyard too...

Ah well, let's hope my boys will earn their way back into it next season blower

Big Eck at Villa? Rolling Eyes

Seriously, when Mark Hughes and Steve McLaren were available? Managers who are about on par (barring Big Eck fans who point out that he won all those 50/50s with Rangers) that come with the added bonus of not playing terrible football, and more importantly not already hated by the clubs fans.

Got all excited when they revealed our new completely pitch black with no piping or anything; coinciding with the RWC I got all a bit patriotic and excited (even though I'm not Kiwi, I'm Scouse) until I learned a few days later that it was actually blacked out as it hadn't been unveiled yet Sad

In retrospect I should have found it strange to have no sponsors... <:
