THE NEPTUNES- WHAT D'YA THINK?

G'day, I write CD reviews for a website and have to review The Neptunes new album, I'm not into hip hip or rap, but even if I was I think this album sux. What do you guys think? Would love to use gangsta references in the review, but don't know shit. Much appreciated.

They have turned the pop/hip hop world upside down,very profesional approach,cameos......production and then they drop thier own bomb.
Timberlake,snoop.....N.E.R.D rewriting the script.
Rumor has it when they first started they put out the word for a whole bunch of demos from local artists and then ripped them all off.....HA HA.

Some might call them sell outs but if they can make the likes of Britney, Timberlake etc appeal to my ears then I gotta give them some props. They have done a good job.
I do think that they have oversaturated the radio with their sound though & I can see myself getting sick of it, but for now I quite like what they are putting out.
I read somewhere that they dont want to have a definitive sound like Dre Dre, Timberland etc, but this is exactly what they have done - you can tell a Neptunes produced track as soon as you hear it.

Seems like opinions a bit divided on it, but personally I like it. Busta and ODBs tracks are my favourites at the moment.. and frontin' is a good poppy cheesy hiphop tune..

I like tha ol dirty track[but I think it is cos i'm hungry 4 sum ol dirt @ tha mo]
but tha Punk stuff on the album is shit!!!!!!!

I like the way their tunes make my shitty car stereo sound gruntier than it really is. My favourite track at tho mo - Ludacris I-20 - it wasnt us.

the neptunes haven't sold out...pop music gave in....pharrell is redesigning pop music like prince did in the 80's...twisting urban music to appeal to a white and black audience..virginia is a breeding ground for the new shit in black urban music...hailing from that area besides the neptunes...timberland, missy elliot, and the 'don' himself d'angelo...getting back to the album..the track "The pop shit" featuring Dirt McGirt is an instant classic...ya' can't hold down the O.D.B...

A bit too late Macdaddy... but i'll put in my 2 cents worth anyway.

Personally I think that the Neptunes are the best production team of late, maybe because I don't like my hip hop too gangsta, and the Neptunes have a knack for bringing out the funky side of artists.

As far as Clones goes, I think it's an album that grows on you, but overall I think it's brilliant work. First off it's a bit disapointing cos it's not the cliche Neptunes sound of syncopated guitars and loose funky drum beats.

Instead it's experimental and according to the included DVD - it's more themselves, rather than 'pop'ish songs they've written for mainstream audiences.

I think they're f**kin talented, and the fact that they never sample or sequence any of their songs is amazing. I also think the shit they did with JT is dope, even though JT is a sellout for doing McDonalds adds!!!

but in my opinion they sold out. any clip that relies on sex to sell is a sure sign of a sell out.

j5, the roots, binary star, gza, krs one, and talieb kewieli are examples of non gangsta hip hop. it called conscious rap.

Hey i think the neptunes alright. I listened to the album in Sounds. I personally like Pharrel because he has a unique voice and he's different from the usual hip hop n all that.

Personally I think the neptunes are the best producers out there..Some of the tangents they go on, on that album are pretty weird and thats what they are into but fuck look at the number of anthems they have written for busta, jay z, odb, cnn, nas etc..

At least they make pop music sound better...that supercat trak, nas and odb tunes on the clones be dope
