Saw Lord of the rings last night and i was expecting a riviting show but i was actually not all that excited about it afterwards. Effects and scenery were awesome but i wasnt that impressed with the story. No i havent read the book, everyone one keeps telling me that it would be better if i had of read it. Maybe I was just not in a movie mood and a do have a problem with concerntration, it just seemed like it went on for 10 days. Anyone else seen it and wanna comment?
[quote]
Yes, it would definately have made a difference if you had read the book. I though it was amazing, it only seemed to flash by in an hour for me.
[quote]
pretty bloody good i thought. missed a few bits out but nothing that really mattered. i wanted to see it cause after having read the book god knows how many times it would be amazing to see how it all looked - the special effects and scenery were incredible!

keltip i just think you have to bear in mind that you've only seen the first three hours of a nine hour saga and the story has only really just begun. there is soooo much more to tell and i'm quietly looking forward to the next one (just a shame that one has to wait a year or so!)

but good tip - go to a cinema with decent seats... after three hours @ wairau park my arse was just about falling off... =]~
[quote]
Ok i will persivear (sp) with the next ones and hold my judgment till ive seen all 9 hours.

spoke with a friend who also thought it went on
& on, and after a good 'ol ass numbing didn't
have much to say except great scenery. And too
many scenes with some kind of flute music over
top. They did not read the book however but do
have good taste when it comes to films.
Nevertheless I will see it for myself and form an
individual opinion

not too impressed with the fact that it just ends... Sad if i had knwon that it would end in that way and that you have to wait till next summer for the second story i wouldve got it out on dvd Smile
[quote]
yeah i had the same feeling about the ending. Was like and........
[quote]
fuck i can't believe the retarded comments that are coming through! of course you have to read the book otherwise you cannot appreciate the movie in nearly the same way. it's not a shitty blockbuster with a whiz bang special effects ending-you are supposed to just carry on reading the next book. i thought it was a brilliant and almost perfect interpretation of the books - peter jackson is a legend
[quote]
KELTIP - Ummm, not that I work in the movie industry or anything (cough cough!) - but I think you would REALLY enjoy Monsters Inc......its only an hour and a half! It had the biggest ever opening for an animated movie in the states (bigger than Shrek/Lion King) - by the same people that made Toy Story/Toy Story 2.

I bet you will like that one! And be sure to stay right till the end to see the bloopers!

Wink
[quote]
hey, not saying the movie was shit, actually quite the opposite Smile and i didnt even realise the 3 hours that passed... Smile

im not a book reaer anyway, so ill just have to wait Sad

Ok no matter how good a director is it would impossible to give people who have not read lord of the rings enough background to understand the movie as well as people who have read the hobbit or the trilogy.

But just remember that the movie is one third of the way through.

If you actually want to understand the movie you might have to read a few books, I know this may hurt some of you, but LOTR is not the most popular book in history for nothing.

I found the only negative aspect was the fuckin annoying music and the action scenes were a little fast maybe to hide the C.G. effects.
But dam Peter Jackson, just the man. Could not see Speilberg or any other director doing anything nearly as incredable.
[quote]
Thanks pluto, we know your in the industry. I probably would enjoy Monsters inc, my point was i didnt enjoy Lord of the Rings. Each to their own but it wasnt my thing.
[quote]
Monster inc could possibly be more at your intelligence level Keltip.....
[quote]
Ouch!

LOL!
[quote]
dpt.. your intelleigence level would be... "Forest Gump"???? ;P hehe
[quote]
myself and stupid go together like peas and carrots.
[quote]
Yes i can see how you would need a higher intelligence to understand the orf.
[quote]
or, to possibly understand the plot... and enjoy the movie because you can comprehend it - a sign of intelligence.

not to go 'wow, pretty pictures, man'
[quote]
Looks like the ring has many obsesssssed by its power.

some fairly precious comments people...
[quote]
Yes dpt you must be right im an idiot as i did seem to miss the underlying cryptic message of the plot. You win, Congrats.

yay me !

I haven't read the book (although i have always meant to, and I read a cartoon rendition of The Hobbit when I was about 10...) However, I cannot wait to see it, and I'm positive it will have just as much of an impact and impression on me as those who have. :o)

*still refuses to watch anything that's fantasy based*
[quote]
You will miss out big time them aims. I don't think you have to be a fan of the fantasy genre to enjoy this movie, its an excellent story which has been brought across to film brilliantly.
[quote]
it scares me, i get bad as nightmares... i might watch it when it comes out on video *yes*

We went and saw the film last night and it is true to the story - it goes on and on just like the book. 3 hours and a numb ass later I was glad that part 1 finally ended.

I've read LOTR a couple times and also the hobbit several times.

I've also seen the Hobbit and LOTR in cartoon format when I was quite young [and remember enjoying the cartoons ALOT! in fact more than the movie for some reason]

I have high hopes for the part 2 of LOTR. I felt that Peter Jackson didnt get a chance to proove himself in part 1 because there were no epic fighting scenes [such as the Battle of Helms Deep]. Perhaps a bit more gore and a higher adult rating [such as Army of Darkness]. That is where Peter Jackson's skills lie - splatter.

I definately think Speilberg and other directors could have done the job, maybe even better because they have better contacts.

I personally think that the movie would have been more true to the story if it were in black and white. But that's just my opinion and you're welcome to flame me Smile
[quote]
Thought it was brilliant.

Went and saw it the day it opened so I'd have no comments from other peopl which would influence my feelings before seeing it.

While I do feel its overhyped, its a superb film. Was a very good adaption from the book, a very entertaining watch and definitely a big reason to want to see the next one ASAP.

Equinox - Black and White. what? Are you colour blind?

Hadn't read the book. Went to the 12.30midnight sessions on opening night. Don't remember a thing, feel asleep as far too wasted. Only remember leaving half way through for a bit to get some munchies Sad. Is it worth seeing again? Oh yeah do remember something, scary.

i have read the book & I felt let down with the amount of the story that was skipped over. Some of the parts missed I thought were pretty important to the story line, like where the hobbits got Bill the horse from. All of a sudden there was a horse with them & they had to say goodbye as he couldn't come any further with them. In the book it made sense but at the movie I was just thinking why put the horse in for 2 seconds. Some of the scenes with the elf queen (can't spell her name!) had good parts left out of there like Sam looking into the mirror too & getting the magic rope from the elves that they later use to save their lives ( part 2 maybe!) they didn't show that so are they just going to conjur up more stuff in the next 2 movies that won't make sense unless you have read the books & can fill in the blanks for yourself??

[quote]
I enjoyed the movie
Was even betta when i saw my name on the map!! Rohan
If they took the my way instead of going tru the mines, they might have been betta off!! hehe

On a serious note the movie was good and followed the book pretty much
Bring on Part 2

"Equinox - Black and White. what? Are you colour blind?"

I'm not colour blind - I've just seen ALOT of LOTR artwork and concept art - which all lacks bright colours. The story is set in the dark ages with a dark and serious plot. Schinder's list had a similar atmosphere and it was quite appropriately black and white.

As I said, it's just my opinion.
